Why is this not common knowledge?

“Direct player hits with Ammo Packs reduce the target’s ability cooldowns by 15%.”

Is this for real? This is the first I’ve heard of it. I saw a discussion on Reddit from a year ago about it. This is still part of the game? Is it 15% of remaining or base? If it is still part of the game, regardless if it remaining or base cooldown, it is friggin’ amazing. This needs to part of the tutorial. Part of the tooltip for the ammo packs. This should be shouted from the fucking roof tops! God I hope this is a thing.

Yes this is still a thing. However, this requires you play Skyhammer or Arty. And it also applies to offensive abilities as well. For it to go off, you must land the ammo directly on them. You’ll get a slight exp boost higher than normal and a “direct hit” tool-tip for the extra exp you get. They also need ammo for this to work (as in they can’t already be full). This is why throwing ammo to a fragger or a bushwhacker is an essential part of DB.

It’s for real and I advocate for it. I mastered the skill at level 2. Also, practice jump passing so the animation ends before you land so it doesn’t slow you down.

Is it possible to ‘direct hit’ yourself by bouncing a health/ammo pack off a wall?

(K1X455) #5

Bouncing it off a wall isn’t a direct hit

(doxjq) #6

Believe me I’ve tried, but no it isn’t unfortunately. Only works on others.

But it isn’t 15%. Maybe it was at one point in time but not any more. Every pack takes 4 seconds off Skyhammers cool down. His total cool down is 70 seconds, so idk what that is, you can do the math haha.

(Dysfnal) #7

I tried throwing one up and catching it, no direct hit :frowning:

It’s slightly more advanced information that is already “hinted” with that experience tooltip. First times seeing it makes aware person wonder what it does to direct hit an ammo pack, and why its rewarded, thus making them look around for it or ask about it. Not something to tell in tutorial which should cover the basic mechanics instead. Besides, tuto/assault course already force you so smack dem packs into dummies directly so its shown that such is possible, all left to do is player to figure out its also profitable.

As @Dox noted its definitely not 15% least in Skyhammers case, and I would guess its some kind of set number for every merc involved. Let it be %'s or something else. Hugely useful stuff anyways.

Funny way to use this in EV map btw is to grab 2 Arties with those 1st Gen loadouts with Extra supplies (-20% CD on packs) and Extra pack perk and start juggle them for each other once EV is down to get back your strikes ridiculously fast :smirk:

Me and my mate Aph do this between our Skyhammer and Arty already  Actually quite fun.

Maybe its bound to the amount of ammo which is refreshed. E.g. 20% Ammo gets refreshed will award you with 20% of the 15% cooldown reduction.

I didnt knew this either as much as that you can jump a little higher when you press crouch while jumping. Well, no matter what level you are, there are still things to learn.

(bontsa) #11

Afaik as long as merc has abilities on cooldown, even if they have full ammo they are able to “grab” direct hit pack. This was at least couple months ago when I last tried it.

crouch jump was added in Alpha, prolly why it’s not mentioned anymore

(KUST__LunarTM) #13

The 20% reduction is only one second though

(bontsa) #14

And entire ammopack cooldown is also suspectible for the reduction from direct hits so… It’s not necessary but it’s still ok.

That’s assuming there are actually other players on your teams who can consistently land direct hits (or give out ammo/hp in the first place)

What about throwing the ammo pack in the air and catching it?

It’s not possible. Pretty sure it isn’t any way. I’ve tried trust me XD

Directly hitting yourself with ammo or medpack is not worthy of support XP. A better question is why Phoenix’s pulse doesn’t earn him extra XP for making a direct hit.

Maybe that’s why he gets “Restore” XP? THREADCEPTION
