Why is there no ranked atm?

(n-x) #1

I know the official reason was that we can get used to the maps. But seriously, you dont get used to the maps for ranked by playing them in a 7vs7 mode + the changes are not that big.

Why cant we keep on playing ranked. If SD insists on having seasons and breaks between seasons, I dont care. But this is still no justification to take the possibility away from us to play 5vs5 FF on. Just let us play. Keep the ranking system run internally without us getting a trinket or some visuell new rank.

You took ranked down during Season 1 because of a bug. Effectively killing it. Now at the end of Season 1 it just gathered a bit momentum again and what are you doing. You are shutting it down again.

This is not a question for promoting ranked. I am just asking you to not sabotage the little amount of players who are still interested in playing it.

You want us to get used to the updated maps before Season 2. Well, right now, we dont even have a chance to get used to ranked, let alone to your updated maps in that setting.

Current reasoning seems to be fixing/improving matchmaking. I assume SD planned on having ranked up and running some time ago but ran into issues.

(Szakalot) #3

not sure where OP got this reason from.

the system for casual matchmaking is the same as for ranked, as far as balancing teams, managing lobbies, etc.

we can be pretty sure they will be released at approximately the same time. hopefuly soon

I guess if you’re that keen go and play some pugs, loads of other players are doing just that. SD seem to be indicating what @Szakalot is saying, that the new CMM and implementation of ranked are related somehow, so it’s possible that until CMM is in a more stable state ranked will be offline, but will benefit from whatever improvements are made to the whole system.

With this update, Ranked Season 1 is officially over. With the many changes to the maps, you’ll have a chance to get used to them before we kick off Season 2 with a bang next year!

Straight from the patch notes.

Shoe also said it in one of the update videos.

Edit: It starts at 1:13, don’t know why it doesn’t hotlink the correct timestamp.

(n-x) #6

@pumpkinmeerkat No, thats not the reason, at least not the official one. The official one was so we get used to the maps before Season 2. Even though this makes no sense.

And there is no need to disable ranked while they are working on CMM. And it was also absolute needless to make us players to go through this whole, go to discord, gather there, get a password for a server and so on when letting ranked just run would have been perfectly fine.

It has been 2 months now.

(Szakalot) #7

reason = cause.

what you quote is an opportunity. they didnt say ‘we wont release next ranked season until you learn the maps’ or ‘we are not releasing now IN ORDER TO let you learn the maps’

they said: we are not releasing yet, but you can use the time to learn the maps before it comes out

(nokiII) #8

To quote shoe from the devblog video thing: “Also as a reminder we will be disabling ranked when the update goes live, just so you can get used to all of the map updates before jumping back in.”

That sounds to me, that they’re disabling ranked, so we can learn the maps and compete in the next season on an equal footing, not because they need a few thousand more hours developing a new system when the old one was usable already.

@Szakalot Did you even read what I wrote. I am not talking about Season 2. I am talking about disabling the possibility to play 5on5 with FF on. No bronze, silver, gold, cobalt rank in the end. no trinket. Just have the ranking system run in the background so weak players dont get matched up against strong ones in vice versa.

This has nothing do to with releasing something, but with taking a mod out of the game (which should be the core game) for absolute no reason.

@hypnotoad And thats my point. You dont get used to the map updates by playing them on overcrowded 7vs7 servers. Hell, most players need practice in the ranked setting as it is.

@Kelben not disputing the initial messaging from SD.

@shoe explains in a more recent video.

way i see it you have two options:

  • you can assume that the Devs are not releasing 5v5 ff-on in order to get people used to the maps, which like you pointed out - makes no sense
  • or you can assume that Ranked is not out because they are working on the matchmaking system, which is shared between ranked and casual. You can also recall the devs talking about it some months back, where they openly discussed that the bug-fixing updates also included some backend work to make way for the future ranked and casual matchmaking. In the context of which the previous 5v5 ff-on matchmaking no longer exists - it has been replaced with some half-baked system that is currently being used.

(n-x) #12

@Szakalot Thx a lot. I was not aware of the second explanation, that they deleted, or whatever they did, the old ranked matching system before the new one was ready.

If that is really the explanation, I find it strange that they had to remove ranked in preparation for the shared features of CMM but Casual can keep going as usual.

(anicca444) #13

have to agree… there NEEDS (not should, or would be nice to have) to be a way to practice the game in the form it is supposed to be played competitively… FF-on and 5vs5, though I would settle for a 6vs6 version in the server list / CMM (via cmm rating segregation meaning the lower skilled players will not be dumped into ff-on until they’re moderately skilled).

for all who haven’t yet, please check out my thread on this/similar issue and give your thoughts / support… the devs will not listen if we cannot show that it makes more sense to implement it than to not.
