Why is Fragger so expensive?

(son!) #41
I honestly do not see what makes Fragger op. Maby I haven’t played enough great fragger players but apart from being more tanky i really dont se a difference.

He has more health than other mercs but also the worst mobility (Seriously even with a knife he can barely sprint) His health isnt that much of a problem if u land consistent headshots.

He has 2 grenades that refresh pretty fast but unless he cooks them you can avoid em just fine and when he cooks them he wont do anything else for 2-3 seconds.

Can someone please clarify what you guys consider the problem with fragger to be?
Same problem people have with Vasilli, abilities that can instagib. Good fraggers put nades on players to gib, so they prime behind cover, peak at the right time to get the toss off to a certain spot to explode right at said spot. Poorer fraggers I see just lob it out (pressing Q by default I assume) which, yes are stupid easy to avoid. Players need to know when you should run away from a fragger’s most plausible nading spot–eg as above, you see a fragger peak with an LMG then quickly duck behind cover, you really should not stick around for the re-peak because you will get a primed nade in the face; vast majority of players I come across stick around for the re-peak which to me means it’s a mechanic that is preying on bad play more than being actually overpowered.

Other part of it that is probably worse with newer players is that fragger is tanky and takes quite a few shots to take down. In the amount of time it takes you to kill a fragger he could be dancing around in the open priming a nade to place at your feet as he goes down. That part doesn’t seem just as one player is doing quite a lot of work tracking and putting shots into the fragger whereas the other only has to worry about putting a nade in someone’s general vicinity at the right time. Just chalk this up as something cheesy though, and in the long run is ineffective.

Guess another aspect is tankiness and weapon damage profiles. Don’t think this is far off if off at all as his dodging/movement ability is poor, which does allow for lower HP classes with weaker guns to straight up fight and sometimes beat a fragger if they happen to have good dodging. Anyway my opinion is that fragger needn’t be tweaked, atleast for now. Other classes like SMG aura and proxy and arty’s artillery strike need to be looked over.

+1, nade spamming was very annoying in ET ^^

Thanks for the clarification son! (hehe)

Uhm I (and al lot of people here afaik) have no real problem with fragger as we said he is not ‘OP’ the problem was as stated before not the class but the fact that he is more expensive than all the other mercs, which creates a ‘this class is better therefore it cost more’ vibe.

A placebo effect if you will. People will think fragger is better, therefore have less motivation, loose more against him and consider him better because he costs more.

I would not be surprised if the upcoming mercs are set as high as him. That would somehow prove my point on the “to buy first” theory. But sadly, if Nader is the next one, that will definitely sound like a p2win drama to a good fraction of the players. Mainly due to her strong burst/“noob”-friendly abilities, which make her OP in some minds.

(artfulSedan) #46

I have no problem with the new mercs costing more for a limited amount of time. IT would stop people from floddign the game with new mercs.
Anybody played LoL when JInx came out? There was so much hype everybody wanted to play her, well in LoL there is a limit off one idividual hero per team, in DB not (which isn’t bad please keep it that way) so making new mercs a bit more expensive is okay, it will stop everybody from buying htem asap and will earn SD some money.
BUTT fragger is now new. I don’t know if you want to ‘simulate’ what i wrote before or if you literallly think he is better.

TO CLARIFY this: i would be as concerned as i am right now if it was another merc. I didn’t start this thread because it was Fragger i start it because i was concerned about what the different prices mean.

(Zenity) #47

I think he’s a good test bed for this to be honest, because he’s essentially the only current merc which has no specific support role. Maybe Vassili too, but at least he got the heartbeat sensor which helps teammates as well.

So if less people choose him right now, it won’t affect team play at all. He’s practically the most selfish merc (although fragging always helps the team of course), so you pay an extra tax for that?

(B_Montiel) #48

Make the merc cost proportional to their health pool :expressionless:

(artfulSedan) #49

@B.%20Montiel you just want proxy to be really cheap

Multiplayer shooters 101: There is no better way of supporting your team than to kill your enemies.

(artfulSedan) #51

that is CoD 101. Before then it was :“There is no better way of supporting your team than by playing the objective”

(sinKrin) #52

The enemy can not push a button… if you disable his hand - Sgt Zim.

Which fortunately you can do with any merc.

(Glot) #54

Mercs can differ in price, just like and other products for sale.
but difference in price should be negligible.
i do not like any pay-to-win flavour in my pie. but with price difference as high as 80% it realy smells like this.
so.

 1. balance the merc a little bit (nerf him by 5% - he still will be the best)
 2. get his price 10% higher than others instead of 80%

and i do not think ppl will continue to worry about p2w in this regard

(artfulSedan) #55

But if you disable the button, the enemy can’t push it!

(sinKrin) #56

What better way to disable a button than by clearing everyone guarding it? Can’t push a button if they are incapacitated or waiting on a respawn.

(artfulSedan) #57

Butt they will keep on comin. If you destroy the button they don’t even have the chance to push it.

(sinKrin) #58

It’s getting a bit circular now. You’d only need to disable the button once (using the button as an objective) The aim of killing the other team is to enable yours to push forward and secure the area around the objective. Try planting a C4 charge without killing any of the defending team and see how far it gets you. It’s very much an objective based game (the only way to win a match in fact) but the devs gave you those guns for a reason.
