Why is everything so narrow?! /o\

(warbie) #1

I can’t be alone in this. The maps aren’t just a bit narrow - they’re weirdly narrow. The widest roads have the width of the thinnest paths in RTCW/ET/ETCQW, and even they’re cluttered with debris to get stuck on. Fighting in tiny rooms, up little stair wells, in narrow corridors. Some areas stand out more than others, but pretty much everything is really small! It’s unnerving, like being at the bottom of a well. There’s lots of interest and discussion about movement so far, but this has to as important an issue. We need places to move around in.

ive started a thread about this specifically on whitechapel.

Whitechapel my Edit suggestions.

I’ve already posted this a while back even with 105 fov… bring Camden back!! T_T

Yes. I have been thinking along the same lines over the past days. The game (DB) will perhaps feel too overwhelming for newbies? We do not want that. One way to make the game more easy to “get into” and to enjoy, is to make the maps less cluttered.

It is hard to express exactly what I mean, so let me use some screenshots. In each of the images below, the red circle denoted “A” contains stuff that can (should) be removed. These elements are in they way in duels, and they contribute to that “cluttered” feeling. The red circles denoted “B” are examples of stuff that are OK, and can remain in the maps.

I’m slowly beginning to work on this stuff with the team, hopefully over the coming months you’ll see it improving.

Let the widening commence! :penguin:

great. we may still moan :hog: … we need some DB smileys.

Good, looking forward to what you can do to improve this!
I too find the maps narrow. This is not just physically narrow, but also very much visually cluttered up with stuff that draws attention while it shouldn’t.

(INF3RN0) #8

Also any random furniture in rooms that only serve the purpose of bumping into them and stopping your strafe completely >.>.

(rookie1) #9

i was getting use to it …no no leave it

(tokamak) #10

I’d say, remove those black poles everywhere they’re a bane to good gameplay. But then again, they do contribute to the London feel. If you’d make them all non-solid then nobody would notice.

(Fluffy_gIMp) #11

Agreed, start a suggestions thread and we’ll stick them on the list

(zenstar) #12

They do add to the London look… maybe they should have stumps of black poles that have all been cut down for scrap metal?

(.Chris.) #13

Keep them in, if your that daft to run into them you deserve it. I agree with de-cluttering main routes of such obstacles but to remove all small objects is nonsense, a bit of awareness is needed.

mb open third floor building left of lift could add a passerel to somewhere

Come on, would you rather have crates all over the place? Something needs to fill up the space in the world. There needs to be cover to get behind etc. So I’m all for the furniture or vehicles and jersey barriers.

Widen that shiz out - but keep the cover.

(warbie) #17

We all want cover - just less of it and more space to get busy in.

(tokamak) #18

It’s difficult to interact with the cover though. I’m not talking about climbing it or anything, but more about leaning and such.

(Mustang) #19

Must say I’ve yet to have any major issue with obstructions that I’ve been able to see (bollards, postboxes, etc.) the main things that trip me up are clipping issues that are invisible, for example not beeing able to get within 2m of certain walls, corners, hiding spots, etc.

(INF3RN0) #20

This is the real problem, but it’s more about conscious design decisions than anything. Most of the objects in the environment don’t serve a purpose other than to just sit there and look pretty. At least in ETQW most all objects appeared to be there with the player in mind, and not just the scenery. I’d appreciate it if DB took that approach more.
