Why I'm not using the new Crafting System (and why you shouldn't either)

(hawkeyeguy99) #1

Let me be real with you, I’m not a fan of the new crafting system. As it’s been said over and over and over again, it devalues anything but lead and Cobalt cards to pretty much useless. On the first day of the new system I got excited and recycled a gold Aura that I never used to get the fragments. I already severely regret that decision. I’ve made the decision that I have what I need for now and am going to stockpile everything until this whole storm blows over. In my opinion, SOMETHING is going to change, whether that’s a revert to the old system (which is extremely unlikely) or a re-balance of costs, I don’t think that the crafting system will stay in it’s current state for long.

So I’d say: wait. It’s not worth spending all your credits and recycling all your cards now until we see what the system will actually be. I for one will be completely staying away from ANYTHING that has to do with the system and stockpile everything (leads included) until I can get a firm idea of what it’s going to cost me to try to get the cobalts that I want.

I guess this is more of a PSA than anything else, but wanted to share my reasoning and hopefully convince some others that waiting may be the best option here.

But I already recycled a bunch of cards for 30,000 fragments .-.

I really hope the only thing that changes is the removal of credit cost. I still haven’t crafted anything

I am already at the point where I wouldn’t mind a rollback to the latest backup before the last update just so we could get the old trading system back.

You guys do know that the average cost of a cobalt, assuming that you aren’t getting free cases and you are starting from scratch, is still a massive 297,620 credits? That’s not that cheap, and doesn’t devalue them much at all.

The old system had cobalts costing around 360,000-480,000. HOWEVER, you have to remember that, in the process of creating that Cobalt, you were able to try for 6 Gold cards, 24 Silvers, and 96 Bronzes? AND remember that you would also be able to pick which merc those Gold, Silvers and Bronzes were given to?

The new system does NOT allow you to try for these Golds, Silvers and Bronzes along the way towards getting your Cobalt. Yes, you are likely to open 1 Gold, 3 or 4 Silvers, and 7 or 8 Bronzes, but not only are these JUST as likely to drop when you buy the required amount of equipment cases when trading up with the OLD system (since it required a similar amount of case openings for trade up materials), but also you don’t know if these few loadouts would actually be for the mercs that you like (unlike the old system where you could choose which merc you wanted to trade up for with your Golds, Silvers and Bronzes).

Basically, you’re all complaining that the new system doesn’t value Cobalt properly, but that’s not true - they cost about the same and, if you really like getting Golds and Silvers along the way, the system is much more punishing if anything. THAT SAID, the new system does also allow you to avoid trading up for cards that you don’t actually want (whereas in the old system, even if you didn’t want Silvers/Bronzes and you were only interested in Golds/Cobalts, then you would still have to spend thousands and thousands of credits trading leads to irons to bronzes to silvers BEFORE you could even get what you were interested in).

So yeah, not sure what you guys are complaining about…

I’m mostly saying that the new system overvalues cobalts compared to the old system by devaluing everything else. Why would I ever craft a silver or gold when that’s just a setback on my way to a cobalt? Basically here’s how I see it: the new system makes gold and silver cards an inconvenience instead of a prize. Instead of being excited for my shiny new card, I’m just disappointed that it’s not a cobalt and it becomes cannon fodder.
The only crafting I’ve done is 2 bronze loadouts for Fragger because I just unlocked him, but I see no point in crafting anything higher than that anymore. Everything has become a meaningless grind towards 1 card instead of a progression with rewards towards a goal of 1 great card.

I don’t think it is meaningless but the players are now more in control of how much meaning they attach to everything. unfortunately this concept is not every ones thing. Some people prefer more structure and set goals. kind of like the difference between a linear and open world game. That is what I am at least noticing.

I see what you’re saying, but to be honest I already felt that way about Silvers anyway - even if I got a perfect card in Silver I’d just go “I’ll use it until I get enough Silvers for a Gold, then I’ll throw it away without a second thought”. Similarly I would trade up any Gold Bamboo cards, even if they were the perfect card for that merc. I only valued good-looking Golds and Cobalts.

Basically, when you say that the new system only makes Cobalts sought after and makes people indifferent to other rarities, you’re discounting the fact that old system also did the same thing for a lot of people.

credit costs for cobalt trade ups should be at least half of what they are now. Add the ability to chose what skin for a rarity you want for real money or an added in game credit fee and it will be on its way to being acceptable. However, that wont happen.

(Jostabeere) #9

I don’t know why people don’t like it. I for myself can get Golds easier than before, and I’m happy about that. Everyone is about “It’s not worth and bad because of Cobalts” Cobalts are not the world.

(ProfPlump) #10

Making Cobalts cheaper and cheaper would just devalue Cobalts and make them common as hell. If you want a skin that looks nice but you don’t want to go for the effort of getting a Cobalt, get a Silver or Gold instead. Half the reason Cobalts are so satisfying to own is because they are so hard to acquire - taking that hardship away will just make them worthless.
