Why I will probably quit Dirty Bomb.

(D4niel) #1

Hello everyone,

I use this thread to address a major problem I have with Dirty Bomb at the moment. I joined because a friend invited me and I had quite some fun, so I invited 2 more people to join the game. It was nice, untill:

We could not build up games together. First we tried to play some objective games, but we could not join in one queue. The only way we figured out was to follow one by one one person which was on any server. That was not satisfying: Often the server was full, we were not able to join the same team (however playing against each other has it’s own value as well, naturally) or the game was almost over - which leads to new team matches and maps again, which was not in our interest, at least the way it happened.

Of course ranked games were an option. But quite a disappointment when we had to realize that a queue with 3 or 4 people was not possible. But finally we gathered 5 people a few days later. We had 4 matches - I do better not talk about how much time the matching alone consumed - and 3 of them in a row against another team, which pwnd us. They were clearly superior in skill - which is okay, but should not happen in a matchmaking game three times in a row (the sense of matchmaking is to match players with somehow the same skill level to make balanced gameplay possible). We also had other games which were inbalanced as well, and even if the game was in our favor, dominating another team isn’t that satisfying either.

Playing alone is sometimes fun - but not the real fun.

I hope the possibility to play with premades will be changed in the future - for the better.

Apparently it’s being worked on, but who knows when it will come out.

Being able to team with your friends in pub games I mean.

It’s supposedly coming out when public matchmaking comes out.

No need to quit entirely. The dev team is aware of this whole issue, which is why they are going to be removing Quick Play in exchange for Casual Matchmaking. You will be able to start a party with your friends and find a game so you will all be on the same team and play together.

As for now, the best you can do is to use the Server Browser and find a game all your friends can fit in. Back in the day, there was no Quick Play and you HAD to use the server browser to find a game, lol.

Another tip is to play Stopwatch instead of Objective. In Stopwatch, the teams are formed before everyone gets locked in, so if you time your switches right, you and your friends can all team up before the game begins.

@D4niel go to the server browser, join an empty server, or one that’s almost empty, and have your friends join you. Problem solved. I have found that most often people will join your game quickly of you have at least 3 people in it

Yeah, people have that tendency to leave servers with just one other player, but the moment you get past the critical mass of 3 players, the servers gets filled very fast.

I don’t even want the match making to pair me and my friends to the same team. We just all want to join the same server. It’s fun getting to gun down a buddy once in awhile.

They are currently working on casual Matchmaking, once it’s released, you will be able to queue with friends

(Icecoal) #8

Just wait for casual matchmaking and see how it goes

(SereneFlight) #9

…or let others to find out whetever it takes 15 seconds or minutes to get into a match

(BananaSlug) #10

i have bad feelings that this will destroy pub balance even more

Cool story, nobody cares.

As others have mentioned you can simply use the server browser. I’ve played with giant groups of friends on pub servers and it’s worked nicely by telling them what server I’m on or simply having them join me if they are on my steam friends list. Also, there is a public queue system coming out fairly soon that will let you queue up with 5 other friends and all of you can play on the same team without somebody being shuffled to the other side.

Also, community servers will be coming at some point too so that will be an option in the future.

Damn Daniel… (sorry i just had to)

Thanks for all your answers and hints.
And happy to know that they are working on something.

The reason im playing Overwatch more is I can play with my friends and the game run smooth as hell compared to DB.

(Nail) #16

whoever flagged this is broken, don’t agree with 90% of his barking but this is correct

(Ardez1) #17

It also runs at 20 ticks tho, which is super painful.

(MTLMortis) #18

Really man? That’s a bit childish to be tossing out instead of adressing the OPs point.

A 20 tickrate is related to how ‘smooth’ the game runs. Sure, there isn’t much trouble with lag except in extreme cases, but the 20 ticket rate combined with client side hit detection makes me cringe. It doesn’t mean I haven’t/don’t play it. It just makes the experience less smooth in my opinion.

I don’t see what is childish about it, but ok. Feel free to think that.

@Ardez yeah I hate that. Getting hooked/flashbanged after my dash animation on screen finishes makes me want to a wall, but I meant smooth with regards to frames. I get no issues on OW and playing with buddies makes it way more enjoyable for me.
