For low end computers it is almost impossible to play with high quality materials on as it will half your frames. If you have a cobalt or a gold and you want to enjoy the skin you will be forced to play with terrible frames or terrible skins since some skins lose all value and are disgusting in minimum quality (crown gold, fragment etc…) . It would be good if there was an option to have an external “high quality materials” (map objects, other players gun skins etc…) and a “high quality materials” for just your gun. This would hopefully give playable frame-rates while having the whole look of a loadout. This would also mean that higher spec computers can stay the exact same by turning both of them on.
Why i think a update is required to the 'High Quality Materials' option.
They still look nice even without HQ materials tbh.
I’m used to have a potato PC (just a month ago I still played on a potato laptop) and I got used to play on low graphics (except for csgo and tf2 because those 2 games run better than Minecraft, how does Valve do this).
Sure, it doesn’t look as nice, but it’s still a lot better than the default skin.
I don’t mind more options to be added (I would personally really like to have “weapon HQ materials” on if I still used my old PC), but idk how long it will take to implement this and if it’s worth the time and effort, considering updates are already slow

simple option is to not use High Quality material.
honestly this is 2017 and if your pc cant run DB on at least medium its 2011 tier and you probably should upgrade to avoid some bad stuff coming for old PC software/hardware like those Ransomware wave we saw few weeks ago.
It’s a good idea.
It was possible to get HQ materials on character and weapon models with full potato map textures in the past with config tweaks.

Well my pc is 8 years old and W7 is still perfectly fine. Tbh new software (lets give it some fancy disguise name… maybe W10?) is malware too but legal.

Yeah it’s not a pain to play on minimal i don’t mind it that much its just that it would be a nice touch. Yeah i wouldn’t want it to be a bottle-neck to the update but if they can work on it without much impact on the release of the update then it would be great.

So do you know if there is a way to do this manually these days. I know they locked down on the things you can do in the config file but i’m not sure exactly what. It would only be a good alternative if the game looks the exact same as it does in low settings but with high quality guns
Never tried myself. I assume it hasn’t been possible for a long while.

Oh ok thanks though
Yes please. I like the clearer look of the maps with HQ materials off but muh shiny weaponz.

Is it really though? I built this PC towards the end of 2013 (4670k, 880 2gb, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD etc) and this really struggles with DB on anything above minimum.
Actually I shouldn’t say it struggles, that’s the wrong word. More like it just doesn’t run smoothly. Idk. Even though I get alright fps, it just looks choppy unless it’s on potato.
I mean I know some guys with better computers than mine that struggle to get 100fps on medium-high settings. The game is just kinda buggy in this sense.

i got the same spec as yours but can run DB on 100fps.
but sometimes when im playing on 8v8 seems like my CPU likes to heat up so i tend to stay away from 8v8

I play DB on an AMD FX laptop, on a metal desk, in the afternoon. You know nothing about heat, dear child.

overheating is a thing, and should not be taken lightly

makes sense for it to heat up a little bit but if it’s that noticeable then you probably need a new fan or CPU did you overclock or something?
