Thanks so much for the flags… You are such a kind and reasonable person XD
Why I love Phantom
Back to topic. I said it in a couple of other phantom treads already but I love Phantom (both as a phantom player and with normal classes against him) because he enforces Teamplay. He is the ultimate punishment for lone wolf behaviour and negleting objectives, cutting down a team one after another that doesn’t work together. On the flipside Phantom is the biggest lonewolf himself. Easily dealt with if he is outnumbered and people keep their cool. Since he is usually in a spot where he can’t get any backup.
Remember “The lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”

You’re an idiot. The pack doesn’t survive.

You missed the point of his post… If there is no teamwork then phantom will have a huge advantage. Those people rushed in blind to the objective, and then instead of shooting phantom the medic and others ran past him and got more teammates killed.

Exactly looking at the video. He gets shot in the back, when he runs into the waggon, the first time. So atleast one player knows that he is around the area. When he rounds the waggon the second time and enters, 3 enemy players could have seen him if they paid attention (Arty, Phantom, Sparks are directly behind him) none of them try a decloak, 2 of them run straight past him after he has decloaked and killed Proxy. I’m not touching on Rhino he is not doing anything, inherently wrong since he blocks the other entrance. Proxy on the other hand could have placed a mine in the entrance to cover herself aswell.
Now don’t get me wrong that waggon is propably one of the best places for Phantom to be. Players are focused on the objective, it is extreme closespaced with very limited evasion space. Even if they worked remotely as a team they would have lost a player or two (proxy was dead the second he was in there). But they didn’t worked as a team to prevent such a bad situation in the first place and therefore everyone died.
And thats my point Phantom is so strong because of a inherent lack of teamplay especially on pubs (but I have no illusions about ranked or min lvl 10 servers here they are only slightly better). Not because his abilities are Over the Top strong. In a way he is like martyrdom, just more punishing.
PS.
Quite a few things have been said about hard countering him (Vassili/Red eye). But more important every damn Merc in a team Softcounters him, keep your eyes open shoot him to strip him of his armor and he is a medium merc with medium weapons and nothing further going for him.

What does that prove???
Those guys barely shot him at all, that doesn’t mean his overpowered.
This video is a bad example. There are other videos showing that Phantom is OP.
You can’t fight with an Aura against Phantom. Its almost impossible to win a 1vs1 if he is behind you. His Katana is a one-hit weapon and will bring you easy kills.
You can manage to fight against Aura or Proxy even if they placed their medicstations/mines.
RE: that video. if the phantom player used the beyblade technique he could have wiped the whole team.
also, the shield stops because he melee attacks the three mercs in the carriage. it’s available almost immediately after the triple kill. he doesn’t even make full use of it.

Do you realize how stupid that sounds? It’s impossible to win a 1v1 against ANYONE who’s behind you.
The only OP thing about Phantom is his health. It could come down to 110 or 100 (probably going to happen IMO) and maybe increase his shield cooldown. If he came down to 100, he would be one-shot by other Phantoms with a Chopper perk, which I believe is pretty fair, especially since he can use a KEK or a Crotzni. The only actual OP thing is a result of how melee works in DB as a whole, so either all melee has to change or the range of the katana and the animation for the “lunge” need to be reduced.
It’s so annoying but also funny how many people are bitching about 1 fucking merc. The same people probably lobby for martyrdom to be removed or something else that will make gameplay more predictable and boring for anyone who has the ability to think critically while playing.
Also, why do people threaten to “leave” communities/games when they have 0 pull in that community? No one gives a fuck nor does anyone probably want you there in the first place.
You should try Fletcher.

I have. It just takes waaay too long to setup his sticky bombs and are easily avoided if he is caught throwing them.
Remember “The lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”
Personally I don’t mind dying if I manage to take out at least one sucker in an effort to throw the enemy in a state of chaos. Then again, you never specified which pack survives. HEHEHE.
As for that video, he completely caught them off guard. How is that different than Proxy doing the same and dropping a mine + shooting the mine? Would have been the same number of kills.
Also, Aura can take on Phantom. It really depends if she notices him or not. One blast from a shotgun will drop his cloak, second blast will drop Phantom.
Thing is, that a team will make it harder to get the jump on the right person (i.e. Medic Vassili Engineer). Killing a single Frontline Merc before you get stopped with the potential of him getting a revive, while you don’t, doesn’t accomplish much.
Now a average Phantom offcourse should still be able to sneak through and take 1-2 high value targets, cause if he can’t accomplish that he is underpowered. After all he is a close combat recon. He is supposed to be, as deadly up close, as vassili is on long range.
