Once we have all the mercs and the loadouts we want there seems to be little use for credits. While I understand the need to generate revenue and promote cash purchases (and I do find the game fair in it’s f2p model) it of course needs to be balanced with player retention. In regards to that, I can personally say that any motivation credits may have once provided is no longer present.
I realise that credits and their uses seem to be of most concern to those not spending money but if done right, in-game currency items are good for the whole community. They keep the freeloaders happy, who may spend money later or leave an awesome Steam review or wax lyrical to their whale friend . What’s the only thing to motivate that Whale to play who’s already bought everything? Something you can only earn in-game.
Of course, any increases in player engagement and/or retention provided by increasing credit utility should be reflected in sales of credit boosters etc.
Right now I have nearly $400k credits, all the mercs and loadouts I want, and 17 unopened weapon cases and their associated annoying markers on my home screen. Crafting Cobalts is ridiculous with the weapon kit requirements or risk of a useless card.
Currently, things I could buy are:
Cases with only bronze/silver/gold loadouts.
A 200 000 credit obsidian loadout I don’t want.
A trinket
Bronze loadouts
As a regular player with all the mercs/loadouts I want in specials, cobalts and golds, which of the above is supposed to make me care about credit boosters or missions?
So as to try and make this somewhat constructive and not just a rant, or cry to make everything available with credits, here is what I would suggest:
-Open up an existing item or two to be purchased with credits. Don’t have to be cheap, but not as costly and specific as a 200k obsidian. eg. Weapon case keys 50k. Weapon kit 20k.
-Have some possible way to achieve cobalt loadouts with credits. Either by selling weapon kits for credits to promote crafting or adding a small percentage chance of cobalt back into the cases purchasable with credits.
-Consider having an exclusive item or two ONLY available with credits. eg. a million credit Rhino wearing a bikini or whatever. I think something like this would be fun for all players, whether they also buy premium items or not. This is something that EVERYONE could play for. Why would a whale need credit boosters when they’ve bought everything already? To get Rhino in a bikini. Obviously.
