so I was just playing a comp match and I had 11-12 k points at the half but in the early part of the second half my town had a power cut. by the time I got back on the game was Finished and it had wiped my points and kills and i checked afterwards and the win didn’t even count towards my next rank
.
It would just nice to know if there a reason they make the game do this (or is it just a technical thing ? )
Why does your score reset if you leave and rejoin a competitive match?
After hastily doing some games last night to get some sort of rank before the reset, I can have some idea why the implementation is there. In your case the power was unfortunately cut and not your fault, and that is understandable as to why you would be perturbed to the match not counting/points earned. On the flip side of that notion is the solo comp game I was in last night. It was a wild one where we lost but would most likely have won had one guy not left due to rage. Here is the funny story.
There was some 12 year old, I assume, screaming into the mic at everyone for not doing anything(his final score was 4000 points and 6 kills), whilst being the epitome of his own diatribe. I told him to calm down that he is not doing any better, and to work with the team (helped that I had 17k points and 40+kills). Amazingly he calms down and admits he was venting his frustration and apologised, so I give him credit for that at least, but do 12 year old’s these days have such existential frustrations?
Anyway game goes along, I tell the guys to repair the EV, I’ll smoke it being a Redeye, and they can repair under it’s cover, while I spot and and kill support. It ended up being me and one other person(who admitted to never playing the map) doing the repair, 12 year old who had proxy on their squad, does not touch the ev nor switch to proxy to help at all. So we get to the last part, one guy leaves who was actually doing worse than the 12 year old. A pop-up on the bottom of the screen goes up and says player whatever has abandoned the match. We have 40 seconds left, 4 guys, where we could have easily gotten the data-core delivered, but only 2 others and myself were able to rush the compound to retrieve, but were overwhelmed. I took down 3 guys in that room, but 5 is too much, and my teammates who were at least trying to help died instantly. 12 year old still alive sitting on the ev turret, being useless, whilst our downed bodies are being violated by the living members of the opposing team, with 20 seconds left on the clock. Now despite being useless, annoying, and kick worthy due to his attitude and caustic demeanor, I ended up finding more fault with the guy that abandoned the match than the annoying prepubescent child.
So as you can see, there is definitely a reason why points are wiped. One man down even for a short duration can dramatically impact the results of a game and skew the winnings in favor of the stacked team, be it purposeful or not. When the guy abandoned the match it did say we can leave with no penalty, (like that would somehow make things better) but that the match would still count, and you can interpret that how you will.
