Why does GTK try to connect to Internet?

(Panzerschreck) #1

Sometimes when I am making a map my firewall says that GTKradiant wants to connect internet. Why?

its because ‘big brother’ is monitoring every move you…

actually, ive wondered about this also, but its because of the way radiant
and q3map work together, since q3map/q3map2 is a stand alone bsp
compiler that outputs its log information to a port so that other ‘outside’
applications ( primarily radiant ) can display that information in their log
screen.

when you compile a map in radiant, you see all the information about the
compile displayed in the lower screen in radiant, it gets that info from q3map2
through a network system.

no information is sent out to the web/internet, its just an easy way for q3map
to allow editors like radiant to seamlessly interface with q3map and get the
compiler log updated in radiant for the map designer to see.

although… if george orwell was alive today, im shure he’d be pointing his
finger at his montior and saying “but… but… but…”

Its because Radiant and q3map work over TCP and your software firewall guards every connection. It doesnt acces the internet.
