Why do YOU play Dirty Bomb?

(kAndyREW) #1

Hey guys,

kAndyREW here. Still stuck with the default name, even though I changed it on the Launcher. Sad days.

Enough about me, I was wondering why YOU guys play Dirty Bomb, the game we all know and love? Give me solid reasons, and I’ll make a top 10 list video for reasons to play Dirty Bomb

I’ll start us off:

  • I love how it feels, it’s like a more serious tf2. sure you have the cartoony look, but at the same it’s not too silly. You have a right balance with the graphics, not too flashy where you can’t tell wtf is going on, but it looks pretty modern.
  • gun play is awesome, i love the weapons, how they feel, and how every class is pretty unique with their own abilities.
  • maps are generally freakin solid. So many ways to flank, open ended for trick jumps, but lots of defendable regions too. good map design, imho.

Okay your turn

It reminds me of older shooters. Fast paced, no stupid ADS enforcement, huge spread or slow move speed.

I can’t say I’m insanely happy with the format of this game. It feels like a stripped ET. And yet, there’s nothing else on the market that has the good ol ET gunplay and tactical battles.

This game feels too much like an intermediary. Like Splash Damage needs to pay the bills to make the next real team/tactical shooter. But, until then, the shooting is fantastic, the game is fast and fun. And there’s nothing else around.

(Runeforce) #4

It feels like a SplashDamage FPS. The only ones that ever did it right. (The only other exception being ID Software, with Doom.)

  1. The variety of mercs and the well wrought balance for all of them.
  2. The overall feel of the game is very interesting. To me, it’s kinda like a cross between TF2 and CS:GO, not too cartoony but not insanely serious.
  3. The game’s fast action. The action moves so fast that if you’re not aware of everything around you, the game will be over very fast.
  4. The fact that you don’t have to ADS to hit anything is very interesting and further adds to the game’s fast-paced action.

Skill is the greatest factor when it comes to gameplay; there is very little RNG involved with combat and the game is actually balanced very well.

So I’m a long time gamer, but I’ve shyed away from FPS because there often seems to be an insurmountable skill gap. I’ve played a little CoD, Halo, etc on console but this is the first FPS I’ve played on PC. I think even though its in beta its a super polished product, very fair, very accessible, and in general the community isn’t too toxic. I’m really impressed at it especially since I payed nothing for it. I’ve used the in game credits to unlock Proxy who I play almost exclusively. I think the objective based play is really great. It’s just a really fun game and I hope they have all the success in the world. It’s a game I would have actually paid for.

(god1) #8

I play it because there’s nothing else to play at the moment.

(Reddeadcap) #9

Because Splatoon isn’t available for PCs…

But in all honesty because of all the ability and quirks the mercs have, and how even in a radiation filled quarantine zone I see less brown or grey than any shooter in the past 9 years.

As for the statements above, it doesn’t enforce Aiming down sights, I wish they were right… It does with the dreiss and k-121 because someone apparently thought of shooting in short bursts.

(umberInlet) #10

The game is ****ing fun. That’s all there is to it. :sunglasses:

My fav shooter of all time is Ut2k4. But I’ve played many, many hours of that and at this point it’s kinda dated. My fav game mode was onslaughter. It was so much fun. Basically, there’s a bunch of nodes on the map, each connecting to each other and the final connection is to your base. Your objective is to capture the nodes until you get to your opponents base and then destroy their node.

This game is nothing like that, but my second fav game mode was Assault. It was pretty much like this. One attacking team, one defending team. Attacking team completes objectives, defending team tries to stop them.

Now almost no other game has tried to include this type of game mode. I guess it just takes more work to make a map that will work for it. Only other game I can think of was like Halo 4 (I think it was 4) but they did it quite terribly.

So now, here’s Dirty Bomb, a game that does that kind of attack/defend objective based game mode and does it well. It’s still not as much fun as the old ut2k4 days since they had instant respawn, but it’s something.

(watsyurdeal) #12

Because I hate Counter Strike and TF2 at my core, but Dirty Bomb has the things I like from both, and has a few other things to make it stand out.

It’s pretty much the shooter I’ve been asking for right now, but I hope there are certain things that are getting attention.

me…because i’m tired of playing ET
wanted something new

You will probably have to PM @MissMurder to get it fixed up.

As for why I play Dirty Bomb? I have not put serious time into an FPS game in quite some time. I was, once upon a time, pretty accomplished at clicking a mouse in the online league and offline LAN scene in a few different games. I also ran a league or two and a CPL or two. I spent a while in a place where the best ping I could get was 130 so my competitive FPS days were over and the whole MMO thing swallowed me up since it was the only thing I could play.

Then Dirty Bomb comes along and pulls me back in to the front of FPS gaming. I’ve yet to determine if I even want to get involved in team play again but it doesn’t matter because simply pubbing/pugging the game has been incredibly fun. So that’s why I play.

Hey! That’s where I’ve been since my W:ET days. MMOs pulled me in hard and didn’t let go until quite recently when FPS came back into my life. That must be why that grind doesn’t bother us as much as it does other. I wish some of the people I see complaining about a 2 week grind would go and play any MMO. DB is like heaven in comparison.

I play because I enjoy the game a lot. I haven’t had this much fun in an FPS for a long time.

I agreed to become a forum mod because I want to be apart of keeping this one of the best gaming communities I have ever been apart of(Still hasn’t beaten ET in my eyes, but that might be nostalgia talking).

(GregHouseMD) #16

I like shooters, but I’ve always been more on the Battlefield and Call of Duty side of things. I hadn’t really touched a proper skill-based shooter in about ten years before trying Dirty Bomb. I basically came for the fun-looking mercs and gameplay, and stayed once I realized how rewarding it was to play a game where fights are not determined by who manages to come at the other from behind, but rather by who’s got the better aiming and dodging skills.

(Amerika) #17

WoW taught me to be very efficient and focused and I’ve definitely carried that into DB in regards to credit earning.

(-EG0_) #18

Its different and fun. Cant say its really balanced when the other teams pick nothing but sky hammer lol.
