Why do you like playing with your favorite merc ?

(Lautréamont) #1

Since everyone is complaining about Phantom, let’s talk about something positive, like who is your favorite merc and why. No need to be objective.

So, let’s see why Fletcher is the best most enjoyable merc in the game.

I’m using his Ahnuhld-12/Empire 9 Double Time loadout. The shotgun is for close range, Empire 9 for anything else. It’s first nice to have two useful weapons, the secondary is not there as a " my primary has no ammo left " solution. The Empire 9 is actually a really nice SMG, it’s like a 90% downcharged Hochfir. Double time is perfect for him, reloading my two weapons on the run.

Some people feel that his stickies are lame, but IMHO, they are very well-rounded. You can use them as Nadder’s long range “little eggz of dess”, as better but manually activated Proxy’s mines (no sound, you can hide them etc), as a anti nest Fragger’s grenade etc. Obviously, the stickies are worst than all of these explosives at their job, and they can do stuff the stickies can’t, but Fletcher’s balls are far more versatile and dependable. They are also hilarious.

Playing Fletcher is really frantic, switching between two weapons, sticky bombing, exploding the stickies, V795 all day (his taunts are the best, you can’t deny it) and that’s why he’s my engineer of choice. He’s just thoroughly enjoyable. He’s a Jack of all trades, (witch is a good thing, the full expression is Jack of all trades, master of none, certainly better than a master of one.) the Ahnuhld-12 animations are great and yelling STICKY BOOOOOOMB is sweet. I recommend playing him while listening to Major Lazer.

(Also, shotguns are nice against melee Phantoms)

Your turn.

I am a big fan of Fletcher too for the exact same reasons as you.

You can just troll people with sticking your bombs on them and made them explode when you want, that’s hilarious. Like you said he’s like a jack of all trades, a mix between nader, Fragger and Proxy which all are very good characters.

Plus I find his shotgun (the Ahnuld) very good at close/mid range, you can put some great headshots with it and/or finish off people you damaged with your stickys

I really like Bushwacker. Idk why, but I’m really fond of engineer-type classes.

Fletcher for sure. I used to use the load out with Aunuld, Empire and double time but I’ve since moved on to the Blish/Empire quick draw load out (mainly because I got it in Swiss Red Gold and tried it out and fell in love). I’m not sure why the Blish gets such a bad rap. It’s solid once you get used to it, especially paired with the Emp 9 and stickies.

Having two SMG’s makes for one less thing to worry about when frantically switching from primary to bombs to secondary etc. You don’t have to switch fire modes in your head from single shot to full auto depending on which gun you have. I’ve found it makes playing him a little easier and my killing power has gone up by quite a bit.

I will definitely try it (I also have a cobalt with Aunuld and Smjüth & Whetsman, and shit perks, Cobalt dismantling when ?)

Arty: I always find a new way to use his laser designator, even without being in direct line of sight of the enemy team.

Nader: I love grenades that bounce around until they explode or explode on direct hit, ever since quake 2.

Fragger: Love being a minitank for my team.

Vasilli: Because even though I cant get consistant headshots I’m helping my team by doing damage, detecting and uncloaking a specific character that for many seams to be the bain of their existance.

Finally I’d love to thank Splash Damage for making such a diverse cast, not in an overly political correctness way that many people would slap the word diverse to but how they all have over the top personalities and clothing to make their silhouette easy to memorize and notice, even when a merc is wearing camoflauge its not even enter a “tacticool” sense, no generic grunt here or there, even Founder cards that go for a modern military asthetic give charactes a really interesting look.

I agree @Redcap, all of these mercs have so much personality, I love it!

My favorite merc right now is Proxy – a small girl can make such a difference in a game! I love being able to bring EVs back up in a jiffy, as well as being able to get creative with my mine placements.

(-0wnage-) #8

Phantom because them ninja skills right? But seriously, It is fun. Against a decent team and a tough challenge, always loved the stealthy kind of gameplay.
Besides that, Proxy 'cus that speed & them mines.
Fragger because it’s a pretty chilled yet deadly merc with them nades.

(Frogteam) #9

I kill you oldschool!

Arty is easily my favorite, preferably with the cricket bat for good fun. I love his Dreiss too much to go too long without playing him, and I didn’t enjoy Kira’s reduced health or space laser since it’s worse at objective destroying and has such a long cooldown.

There’s nothing better than winning a duel with a sniper, ads-ing the Dreiss and just hopping around across the map.

I don’t have a favorite loadout, right now I’ll just switch between my Obsidian, two Silvers and the Default based on how I’m feeling. As long as it’s a Dreiss loadout I’m pretty happy, the Augments aren’t a big deal for Arty so I’d rather look cool than have an extra ammo pack. The other benefit of this is that I’m getting close to being able to trade up for a cobalt arty though, 1/3 chance of getting the loadout I want instead of 1/9.

Right now I’m absolutely in love with Fletcher. Trapping objectives, trapping commonly used routes, and the ahnuhld are all so much fun, and his voice is easily the best of the mercs.

My main is absolutely Sawbonez. Crotzni is amazing, and being able to pick people up is a nice perk (especially since no one plays medic…).

Nader is another fun one, I get a really high K/D with her nades with trick shots off walls and across maps.

Proxy is also awesome, Nothing beats long jumping at an enemy and whacking their skull in with the cricket bat before tossing mines on Aura stations.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I couldn’t possibly name just one merc as my favorite. We get a squad of three for a reason, right!?

Nader is the one I’d name if someone forced me to name a favorite. While I’m not as effective with her as with Fragger ( duh ), she’s got a fun personality, and the launcher is just more amusing to use than frag grenades. I mean, frag grenades are more effective in nearly all situations, but they’re a blunt instrument without any sort of fun factor. Launcher, not so much.

Sparks, despite my initial reservations, is also great. Personality is important once again. Ranged revives are also great. Nailing someone in the head with the REVIVR is just awesome - especially when it’s sudden and unexpected, or at very long range.

Finally . . . ooh, tricky. Fragger? Nah, too similar to Nader. It should be an engineer. In which case I’ll have to go with Bushwhacker. I mean, all the engineers are great. Bushwhacker just has a slight edge by being pretty competent in firefights, having a buddy to watch his back at all times ( I love playing around with the turret, messing with enemies by moving it around to unexpected places ), and . . . I spring surprises. BOOM, hehehe, see?

(watsyurdeal) #12

Nader

Because Directs are fucking fun, most fun thing to do in the game by far.

(BushDweller) #13

I love Bushwhacker!

Reason being is he is so versatile, he can stop charges and make the enemy think twice before charging one side.

Standing next to your turret with the almighty kek 10, really drops enemies like flies, and confuses them on which to shoot, bushwhacker, or his turret.

Placing a turret on corners, or any other close quarter area makes the enemy run right through your turret only being too late to notice it

(BushDweller) #14

Also… why is my name capriBattle?

(LANshark) #15

[quote=“Watsyurdeal;43268”]Nader

same, they are hilarious. Just make sure you don’t fire all your nades at once tho, fire 2 at a time then switch to Primary, so you can get dps out. If your first 2 nades don’t hit the enemy has cleared the blast radius and if they do you got a kill, If they still live you should have dps on them.

(geronimoooo) #16

I like arty, ineffective in every way, compared to other mercs, but I enjoy not needed to be precise like Vasill or worry about my aim like skyhammer. I am still able to supress enemy teams, sometimes shoot someone and enjoy being a jack of all trades

(Mortimoose) #17

Kira. Her attitude and voice commands are funny. BR-16 and Dreiss are both good weapons, not particularly a fan of Burst/semi auto but good weapons nonetheless.

Ammo tower is better than boxes, can resupply an entire team and lasts until moved or destroyed.

And then there’s the laser of destruction that’s capable of annihilating entire teams hiding behind stuff. I should really turn on shadowplay, I missed an opportunity to record a moment where I’d taken out 5 people in 2 seconds with the Orbital Lazor on Bridge.

kira: Peace Sign!

(Conqelson) #18

Sawbones because I love playing doctor for morbidly obese men with mini guns.

(DMaster2) #19

The merc i enjoy the most is Vassili. Not as easy to use as many people think, you can actually be a big asset to your team as long as you keep that sensor near the objective so your team can pinpoint the location of the enemies. Then ofc you have the headshots, nothing is more satisfying than a well placed headshot.

(Ghosthree3) #20

There is no doubt that Vasilli is a harder than he seems. But that’s because it seems to you as the victim that he fired just the one shot. In reality most of the players that do this to you rarely get over 15 kills in a round. It just sucks when it happens to you.
