Not complaining, just asking.
Quite curious as burst rifles take the highest range title except the Dreiss.

Elaborate on “Machine guns”. Do you mean SMG’s? Machine Pistols? because if so, thats how it is meant to be, even in a real-life situation.
yee smg’s are for short range fights, and AR’s are for longer range fights.
like in real life, machine pistols are light and they are using pistol bullets
AR’s are using bigger bullets and they are heavier
@Cam @BananaSlug @succinctDeer
Yeah I meant LMGs like K-121 and MK.46.
GPMGs usually have much longer range than ARs, but in DB, their range is very moderate.
May be It’s more like burst rifles were planned for long-range guns in DB I think.

I think really that they are shorter ranged purely for balancing reasons. If the K-121 had any more range, wow, it would be a long range killing machine. Maybe not so dangerous for heavier mercs, but for the squishies? it would be really hard to counter.

Well, K-121’s current 27m range isn’t that short but considering Timik has 29m long range (same as BR-16)and that gun can’t use that advantage because of high recoil, I don’t really think so. K-121 has quite low bloom but high recoil too.
It is like Dreiss has the longest 31m range among all weapons, and it isn’t that overwhelming as much as the burst rifles killing snipers so well.
MK.46’s 26m range(same as M4) and 11 damage? man, let’s not talk about this.

who knows…
If you think about it realistically, what would be easier to control, a heavy as fuck LMG, or a moderate weight Assault Rifle.
And besides, I don’t take the Dirty Bomb Weapon Stats page (http://dirtybomb.gamepedia.com/WeaponStats) information seriously. They say there is a difference of 1-5 metres in effective range within all “Assault Weapons”, but we all know that skill can outweigh these statistics.

Actually, I’m pretty sure a few real life LMGs have very good recoil precisely because of the fact that they’re heavy. Watch some videos of an an M60 being fired.

@extraordinaryEmperor Nailed it.
@Cam Skill is not always the thing, like the stats aren’t always the thing.
BOTH are required, and that’s why pro-gamers always seek for current OP/decent guns.
You can’t kill snipers with Hochfir at far range better than burst rifles, just because your aiming skill is so damn good.
That info is as significant as fletcher’s sticky bomb can one shot kill Phoenix but not against over 110HP merc.
Those slight differences are actually balancing the whole game.
Realistically they ought to be very effective at range, but this seems to just be a balance consideration. A fire team in an environment with many large open spaces (Afghanistan for instance) would depend on their GPMG or LMG for most of their firepower and suppressive effect.
LMGs don’t have infinite range though. There is an account of a stopped Humvee group in I believe ODS taking fire from an RPK gunner from a good two hundred or so meters outside of the max effective range of the thing, which coupled by the poor quality, resulted in a hit radius the size of a small field. The ranking officer couldn’t even tell it was MG fire because the guy was so far away and not even hitting them.
