Why did you betray us?

(stormlifter) #1

I’m here at midnight hoping to enjoy a game I’ve waited for and all I can feel is like I’ve been played. Did you even test this game? I really wanted to love you guys, I did until I got into the game and felt like I had been a part of a con.

The menus are laggy and fairly unintuitive, but I’m not even going to get started on that…

I can’t host a game that my friend can join. I was astute enough to see that it was looking on port 27015 and I forwarded that. Not to mention there is no reason to even need to forward ports in my case since my friend is under the same router. I even scanned ports and was able to see that it wasn’t even attempting to open one on my computer. Still get “Server Not Responding”, no matter what I do.

Can we feel some love? Please don’t make us feel abandoned.

You feel abandoned because you had to forward a port? Really?

(stormlifter) #4

I feel abandoned because nothing I forward helps. I still can’t play with my friend AT ALL. It’s terribly unpolished to do something like this.

First sentence from the 1UP review…

“Brink is unfinished. And that doesn’t mean it’s full of technical problems. Well, it’s got those too. But mostly, it’s just an unpolished, poorly executed mess of ideas.”

I guess it’s always annoying to play a game at launch that hasn’t been beta tested extensively on PC. A lot of people will have some problems and the first part of the game’s life will be a very intense beta test with tons of people filing reports that they try to fix as quickly as they can.

Hopefully it doesn’t last too long for most.

Probably why they should have released a beta months ago. =[

Forward ports 27015, 27016, and 8766 these ports worked for myself and my friends.

From the server guide:

net_serverPort (default 27015) - This is the port on which game traffic will be transmitted.

net_serverPortMaster (default 27026) - This is the port on which server list and ping queries will be conducted.

net_serverPortAuth (default 8766) - This is the port on which the server will authenticate with Steam.

Did they say the same for BC2 and Borderlands? Because then that would be fair journalism.

Hrmm, tried that. No luck yet.

based on title doesn’t this post belong in ETQW section?

srsly tho: at least that game had a public beta. from which many significant shortcomings were not changed when actual game game out. . . FTL.

:stroggbanana:i’m STILL waiting for the real gunshot and lacerator sounds to be released. any day now…:stroggbanana:

also … 1st post. my old account doesn’t work any more. but when I used it, :stroggbanana: I used to do this :stroggbanana:.

Also make sure the game is allowed in your internet security and windows firewall, or while you are playing disable these items. We have been having no issues connecting to each other when everything is set right.

(dazman76) #14

This is most likely your problem - just because you’re on the same router, that doesn’t mean no firewall-related tweaks are required  Especially if you’re on Windows 7, you’ll need to make changes to the O/S firewall settings to get the traffic in and out on both machines. If you have firewall software on top of the O/S, and have the O/S firewall disabled - you’ll probably still need to tweak whatever firewall software you have. The ports Brink uses definitely won’t be open by default (whatever the firewall), for incoming traffic.

developers BETRAYED the OP because he cant setup his network properly ; )

they didnt make a mistake, or miss something out.

They deliberately deceived the poor OP.

Have you read any of the threads here? There are dozens of people having the same issues. Some of them are experienced in setting up their computers/networks and are STILL having problems.

(dazman76) #17

And that constitutes betrayal does it? Network problems with a new game? Rule no. 1 of using forums - thread title drama = instant flame. There’s no need to use the word “betray” for any of the problems experienced - I know it’s annoying to have these problems, but that’s no excuse really. Start with drama, expect to be burned.

Also, “dozens of people”? I couldn’t find dozens myself - but even so, compared to the number of people who bought the game and signed up here to post about it - dozens is hardly enough to point to a problem and absolutely discount local setup problems  I’ve seen “knowledgeable people” post for days on end about having network-related problems, only for them to realise it was their fault. Even ignoring the obvious problems with firewalls (which disabling the firewall can eliminate), there are still plenty of other factors involved - and “I can access teh internets” is no guarantee that everything is as it should be.

Best to stay neutral until something concrete emerges, no?

Maybe you’d have better luck asking in the appropriate forums.

Actually, it seems Bethesda is now handling tech support over at http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/forum/139-brink-hardware-and-software-issues-subforums/

Sorry for dual sign-up…
