Why can't we talk in standard?

Since I seem to be joining full standard games consistently now (xbox360) I was wondering why the option for voice chat isn’t checked. I use to play competition and old school, but those aren’t as popular as standard now and its shame we can’t talk. I’m almost always an operative and have been enjoying the UAV, but can’t say what I see to my team or alert them to threats plus the lack of communication lessens the experience. When theres a big game of people and your whole team is communicating Brink rises above the other mp games in my opinion.

On a side note thanks for the patches and the Dlc is great, I’ve noticed a spike in Brink players this past week.

You need to invite the other folk to your fireteam. Go to scoreboard, select their name and send them an invite to fireteam. Once they join your fireteam, then they can talk to you. This is a way to cut down on all the garbage that happens on Live when chat is automatically on. Also, if a friend joins your match, they automatically get put into a fireteam with you. You will know this because not only will you hear them, but their name will be highlighted in purple. Once you make friends in Brink, you have people to voice chat. Like I said, many times Live is not a friendly place with rude folk screaming down the mic. Brink has a built-in buffer to limit the negativity.

Ok thanks. I guess I’ll be inviting everyone to my fireteam! I knew about friends being able to hear each other, but I figured this was because we were friends. I get why now, but there is an easily accessed mute menu and I don’t usually notice the votes to join fireteams to much. I think it would make sense to hear people and mute them if they are being annoying. Thanks for the info though!

Every time i go into a standard match I invite everyone to my fireteam.

That’s what I’ll be doing from now on.

I invited anyone to my fireteam when I first started playing until I built up a good friend’s list. A lot of times just the fireteam invite gets people to put a mic in and join and is like a friendly thing to do. You are saying “I’m cool. Want to team up?” Its like a buffer. And it really works. It allows you to have more control over who you want to listen to and not who you have to mute.

I really think you should just hear everyone by default, fireteams are stupid and unnecessary, I hate joining a game just for everyone to be unintentionally mute.

Fireteams make sense when you have 32 players per team, and then you sub-divide that into smaller groups. Brink has 8 players at most, and of that not all will have their mics hooked up.

I like the idea of VoIP ON at all times and Mute if need-be. It has worked for MANY successful multiplayer titles.

Anyway, I remember it was much easier to join/leave fireteams in WolfET.
