Why after today I'm quitting Dirty Bomb

(SirBaas) #1

Hey,

I’ve put many, many hours into this game (almost 250), but lately the community has become too toxic. However, toxicity I can deal with. What I can’t deal with is a bullshit system which punishes ME when someone else is being toxic.

So, I was just playing a ranked match. One member of my team, lowest of the scoreboard (1k points when the average was around 3.5-4), started becoming toxic and flaming.

He proceeded to destroy all our deployables, among which my turrets (playing bushwacker), even though we were winning hard.

During the LITERALLY last 35 seconds of the match (us winning on Bridge as defenders in the second half), he proceeded destroying deployables. Therefore, I teamkilled him on purpose, twice in rapid succession because one of our medics revived him (obviously this person didn’t care about objectives or winning, but purely about his own XP).

Killing this teammate got me auto-kicked from the server, which is appearently a thing, which I didn’t even know.

What’s even more infuriating is that this definite win (in the last 30 secs, enemies would have had to grab 2 power cores in that time to win), would have promoted me to my next rank.

I’ts enourmously enraging, enfuriating and ridiculous that this bullshit system punishes me for someone else’s toxicity.

And yeah, I tried to vote-kick him, but the game wouldn’t let me. Whenever i’d click on ‘vote-kick’ (scoreboard -> right mouse click on his name), nothing would happen.

It’s not the first time toxic players ruined my gaming experience, but this time was the fucking final straw.

Fix your game.

Did this player name rhyme with erosion ex?? if so welcome to the club we all know about him so dont give up on acount of him.

A

The club becomes bigger. I still dont understand why he tries to throw 100% of matches he plays

(ThePigVomit) #4

When they try to destroy your stuff, stand in front of them, once they do enough damage to you, a kick vote will occur, bye bye greifer.

But the damage is already done

Sorry dude, but there is a name and shame policy in the forums; you’ll have to remove his or her steam profile link.

Could you give me a link to that? I can’t find any rule like that.

(Shenaynays) #9

its just a general rule @SirBaas, its a privacy thing. even if someones an asshole, it does no one any favours to call them out by name

Mentioned at the end of post #2 in this thread.

Actually, I can confirm he and the ex rhyming guy are both like that. Each of them is also ranked between silver and bronze and I’m pretty sure they have mics because one time he spent the entire game cussing me out and trying to get me kicked despite having a point lead of 10k on our team. We lost, duh.

Anyway, I don’t recommend quitting because of a few people. In the future report him and move on.

(Eox) #12

Link removed due to “no name and shame rule”. However I took the liberty to report the steam profile of that person to a staff member.

If you guys come across more of those throwers, please report them as soon as possible. We can’t let those getting even more common as well as we can’t let that kind of activity become popular.

The guy I was playing with was gold though probably (since I only get matchmade with gold and cobalt).

Furthermore, where/how can I report people for such behaviour?

And lastly, I don’t interpret those forum rules the same way all of you seem to do. In no way do they state that it is illegal for people to post names/links to profiles. It says “reporting players can be seen as harassment as it can lead to disruptive, inflammatory behavior”. First of all, this rule doesn’t state that posting names is alway, per default, forbidden. And second, in no way did I post that link as a form of harassment, I was actually posting is as to prevent harassment on the other person that was the suspect. With that regard, it would seem to me that this rule should be regarded on a case-to-case basis. However, I suspect that over time this ‘no name no shame’ rule has kind of been ‘invented’ by someone based on those forum rules, and just stuck around.

Apart from that I could argue for why I think a ‘no name and shame’ rule is per definition a unuseful rule (because what harm would there be in calling people out which are harmfull to the community?), but well, this isn’t the thread for that, so I’ll leave it at that hahaha.

Honestly 250 hours isn’t that much in DB, especially for ranked.
Even as a high level player, ranked can be pretty bad and extremely frustrating because of it. And for a lower level player, it’s even worse.

Just play casual, it’s so much better. No reason to leave the entire game just because of one broken game mode.

(K1X455) #15

There’s even a smurf that was made who is continuously hunting me in NA and EU servers just to de-rank me. He plays good if he’s in the opposite team, but totally throws the game if he’s in my team. Same behaviour (destroys team deployables, deliberately runs into molotov fire, air strikes, lasers and team flashbangs almost anyone particularly ME).

And the no shame policy takes effect as much as no action is being done.

Casual just isn’t really any fun for me, it’s way too easy and people don’t play seriously. I enjoy playing tactically, playing objectives, much more than I do just running-and-gunning. The only reason I ever play casual is when a new merc gets released, other than that I only play ranked. And even though cobalt elite’s might have much more hours invested into the game, 250 hours is still a huge amount of hours to spend on a F2P game ;). Especially since the average length of games is around 20 hours (yes, I just checked a semi-scientific source for that :p).

DB needs to have report for toxic behaviour button in Ranked.

But then even the report toxic behaviour can also be abused.
Back then i got mass reported on something by a clan that was butt-hurt that my team won 4v6 even to the point they spread rumors that i cheat. Glad i’ve never seen anyone using their clan tag anymore and i never got suspended by their report.

maybe add a feature to blacklist these type of people?

As far as I know DB has been cracking down on salt, at least to a degree. They did change the “offensive name” button to “offensive behavior”, so I’d reasonably assume they have a way to check it.

Blacklist wouldn’t work for anything beyond blocking in game chat messages from that person though. With a playerbase as small as DB, it’s impractical to allow players to blacklist each other, especially when you consider it would mostly be used to avoid going up against extremely skilled players, similarly to how people left ranked games if they saw someone too good on the other team.
And well, you can still harass someone in game even without talking to them

It would be interesting to know how often I get reported for offensive behavior. Not immediately after the report but as a summary, like how often by hour playtime measured over the last, say, 20 hours.

I’d expect it to be fairly low number, but if not, I’d at least know that quite a few people are unhappy about how I behave and can look into it.

(Pretty sure I get reported from time to time when I teabag 3/29 Vassilis instead of reviving them. Not gonna change that.)

I find way more irritating get paired with unranked or low bronzes on ranked. Trust me, when you lose 3 matches in a row because of new players, you’ll find any troll a good guy compared to them.
