i really think there is a huge amount of potential in this merc and I don’t want it to be wasted like that
and plus no one likes a game where there are some or one player which is just not worth playing
when you want to play in a different style.
I hope DB will erally buff him back or at least make him worth playing

The only thing that really bugs me about Phantom currently. (even though yes he did get super Nerfed) is the Heavy melee swing… and this is a global problem for all melee.
So, fixing heavy swing in general would make Phantom a lot more playable to me again, as a melee merc.

I agree with you but there are more problems with this merc like the huge amount of sound his cloaking power makes and maybe change his speed a little bit and the power of his cloaking ability to serve like a shield a little more
I don’t want him to be as astron as he was, since it was a little bit ridiculous, but I wans his damn INVISIBILITY-cloak being invisible and he needs another ability. Like deactivating turrets and such things, like the concussion nade, but on shorter range. Like a charged EMP shot.
And yes, the right-click stab desperately needs a bigger damage window. Slash is just more reliable when the enemy is moving.
Phantom is just poor designed now. Even if you’re a good player, and you kill stuff, you don’t kill people in mass like Fragger and you always end up down the point-chart of your team.
I love playing Phantom, and I love the character. He is just too bad in comparsion with other mercs.
As long as he can attack while cloaked he’ll be a frustrating merc to fight against. Nobody likes fighting something they can’t see.

We know, what @Watsyurdeal is referring to is most probably towards the fact that Phantom can exit his cloak instantly without any kind of thought whatsoever in order to deal that heavy lunge / quick slash / Kek-10 headburst which all deal major amount of damage.
Which is in my opinion currently unpreventable in public setting. Since it is only counterable by communication about Phantom’s whereabouts and positioning which requires some other fella’s too who’re catching what’s up and not bish-bosh around like headless chickens. Both things that again are heavily presented in competitive setting, which then again makes Phantom not used there.
Adding manual decloak would allow invisibility, shield, katana, you-name-it to be buffed greatly without feeling OP, since then it requires more thought to take your “jump” on the enemy.
To the thread in question however. I want SplashDamage to revisit Phantom, not necessarily straight up buff what he currently has. He needs some utility, and so far they’ve only said nope to spotting / EMP abilities, still not an absolute nope against any kind of utility. It just apparently has to represent his loner-type personality, so why not Blackout spotting-prevention some magnificent bloke mentioned here while ago? Well, that’s a whole different discussion on it’s own.
And another thing people didn’t mention. A cloaked assassin shouldn’t sound louder than a lawnmower, seriously.
To make phantom a bit more viable and retaining balance, either make the cloak quieter or less visible: not both. Even if I love the thought of playing phantom that way, we must consider counterplay.
I’ve often requested his speed be boosted only while under cloak to aid in sneaking past enemies. (also the whole moving-increases visibility is a pain since his invis nerf against any teams with eyes/spotter mercs.) - Also annoyed at the increased cloak cool down making it impossible to escape even after getting a kill against teams using voice chat. - Reducing his damage reduction while in cloak would also give incentive for him to not simply run directly at people once spotted.
A few people here have requested that he not be able to leave cloak through attacking - the issue i found was that a phantom could just wait to take damage before retaliating - resulting about the same problems that some complain about today.
As for a teamplay option, I once suggested placing proxy mines the size of sticky bombs which spot enemies instead of blowing up, but can be destroyed similar to a heartbeat sensor. Sadly, since SD said ‘no’ to the spotting options, we must think of something else.
(this also includes the ‘comms hack’ which cropped up a few times in past discussions)
My personal idea was to allow phantom to see enemy health as a second ability with perhaps a 25 second cooldown - allowing him to indicate to his team which merc to focus fire.
The often-brought-up idea of a blackout area of effect to stop spotting of teammates does not seem to be useful in my opinion. It would only be practical against other recons: not any other class.
Agree/disagree? give solutions below, please.
Heavy Melee should be reverted, katana attack frames should be lowered, gg fixed melee.
No idea what else to do for a supposedly close range recon though, he needs some sort of recon ability.
