Q3 all the way…
Who here is a big fan of both Quake and UT?
Ho, really? Well, I guess that’s subjective. The demo was not an improvement and damaged vehicle handling and player movement in my opinion so I didn’t buy it and I wasn’t alone among UT2k4 players.
If anything the UT3 sp should be proof enough that that universe doesn’t stand up  I think epic basically acknowledged that when they put the series on hold.
UT3 demo was indeed bad, along with that awful GUI of 1.0. Luckily mapmixer fixed that, gave UT3 back it’s customization options, but only a year or two afterwards. The game would of done a lot better if it was released with the Titan Pack and patch 2.0 from day1 (Just without the Titans…)
UC2 is by far the most interesting games in the series and the less known. Was made for the Xbox in it’s final days when everyone started moving over to the Xbox360.
At least there the universe was still intact (Apart from Raiden’s presence)with characters that actually had back-round stories and personalities. Also it had style, melee combat, acrobatics and fatalities…
Speaking of fatalities, what is Brink rated at?
Beta Demo release date
October 12 2007
Release date for game.
November 19, 2007
I would say beta demos 1 month before release date is bad idea.
Splash Damage has its roots in Quake, although newer employees might not care. Dominance of splash damage weapons is a very distinctive feature of Quake, as opposed to moder shooters.
Well, yeah. I didn’t mention the broken server browser, fail custom content support, gamespy problems and such. I assume those were fixed (some post release
) but they probably turned off many, too.
I enjoy both UT and Q3, find Q3 more fun though, feels smoother and strafejumping is fun.
edit: and whoever said it: facing worlds ftw!
Started of online gaming in UT99, I played for a few months not realising I was playing vs other people online and not bots, played DM, CTF and, assault mostly.
Never played a quake game until I tried quake live, I enjoyed it but I love the team based game of rtcw/et/quake wars too much to switch now!
