While We Wait - Profiling Brink

(3Suns) #1

Sometimes it is difficult to determine just what it is about a game that we like or dislike. A while back, someone made some insightful comments about Modern Warfare 2 and Halo, and reflecting upon my own experiences, especially with the Gears of War series, I developed a system to help profile games and gamers - which I’ve no doubt, my feisty and boldly critical friends here will enjoy tearing to pieces.

I would like to hear your thoughts on it, and see what kind of profile you think Brink will get (I have my own ideas but I want to know yours). Check it out here. The Open Office profile templates are downloadable, so you can play with the numbers all you want.

This is an example profile of Battlefield:Bad Company 2. The high res version is in my blog post linked above, or can be found here.

Cheers! :stroggtapir:

Here is an example of a tentative (pre-release) profile of Brink. I tried to edit it into the blog post proper, but I think wordpress slide shows max out at 18 slides or something. HD version here. At this point, this is my image of Brink.

I don’t understand how you can come up with such a thing for a game which hasn’t been released yet. Let alone you aint played it. I understand you are guessing with these scores, but I believe you are getting a little excited over Brink, as we have yet another 6 months to wait!

I would have rated a few games you have on there differently, so each to their own.

very interesting 3suns, thanks for posting this up!

I wish these attributes could be obtained from actually playing games. Like some deep statistics analysis.

Fluffy, thanks for commenting and appreciating it!

tokamak, that would certainly make the system a whole lot more objective. As it is right now, the only stats I regularly see that inform my profile is the K/D ratio - and since mine is consistently below 0.50, I am forced to conclude that I can’t shoot for sh!t. ha ha ha

On the other hand, and I brag here, I am ranked under 5000 in the world of 360 BF:BC2 gamers for squad score, (a cumulative score) and I have only played the game for about 60 hours. I consider that to be evidence that I am a solid squad teammate. When you roll with me, you are never low on health or terrorized by Tanks for very long. Also, you seldom need to run to the objective, because if you do, you will often find that I have already armed it.

That is what I am talking about when I say that games love or hate us. I have been at the bottom of the match results for so long, that I developed a complex. With the original Gears of War, then L4D, and most recently BC2, I am finally finding that some games do find me attractive. I can’t wait to see how Brink feels about me. Everything that SD interviews are telling me, however, is that she is being brought up to like “nice” guys. Not just motorcycle ridin’ rebels.

One more thing, if anyone wondered why I gave Brink such a low playmaking score, it is because of the Objective Wheel. I wait to learn more about it, and more importantly, use it.

Another team player  I am ranked 2369 in squad score, as I usually play Medic.
