Which is better for noobs, Aura or Sawbonez?

(solace_) #1

Please take into consideration both mercs’ health, weapons (shotguns vs. SMGs), abilities (how fast is the recharge? can it be spammed? destroyed?), And then decide which would be better for a noob. Ease of use and familiarity are two key words here.

(doxjq) #2

I’d say Aura. Faster paced (easier to flee, which many noobs do a lot of), and her health station is way easier to control. Just plant it and let your team mates position themselves. Sawbonez is great don’t get me wrong, but it’s harder to keep track of people to give them health packs I reckon. Perfectly fine for a coordinated experienced player, but much harder for a noob to follow everyone around and keep them loaded up while they’re still trying to remember which button does what.

I would also go with the Aura, seeing quite a couple of free rotations of Sawbonez now. Medpacks have more finnicky in them, despite having much greater “spread-em-heals” potential. Those poor starting ex-Navy seal black men trying to desperately keep me healed with a pack while I’m still getting shot at and cannot exit into cover… They’re doing what they can, it’s harder to grasp despite being rather straight forward ability.

Station however has more “place-n-forget” style, once its down no that much of a worries about it as long as it’s not in middle of a road or anything. Any a little more experienced player tries to even cover stations. And now they can be found more easily too with implementation of seeing hp- sources through walls when low on health.

do you want a bag of skittles in a place where everyone can find it, or have to ask someone nicely to MAYBE give you a couple skittles? - aura vs sawbonez in candy form.

(SaulWolfden) #5

Even though I like playing as Sawbonez much more than Aura, she is far easier to play than he is, all you do is place a station and you get a ton of support XP which is why I don’t care if I get Aura missions as much because of that. With her SMG she becomes fairly capable at more than just short range.

(solace_) #6

I’m surprised at everyones responses considering that sawbones has more health and easier to use weapons, and don’t even bother asking me about his abilities.

its also funny how everyone reduced who is better over the healing ability.

People have to actively remember he even has med packs. with aura, if you remember at least once, you’re helping more than one team member. Shotguns vs kek-10 may not be exactly a fair comparison, but remember that some nubies don’t even know that bullet spread increases when they first start. I see many newer players holding down left-click and never letting the bloom re-set. With a shotgun, however, tracking a target isn’t a requirement until after the first shot. For your argument, define how the weapon is ‘easier to use.’ - Addressing the Sawbonez HP, yes he’s a bit tankier, but less mobile. If a nubie wants to run from a fight, Aura’s the easier one to do it with. Also, being squishy encourages Aura to stay close to teammates rather than try to take on the world and get killed like a new Sawbonez might. - (also recall that if the guy giving out hand-fulls of med packs dies, then no more heals. If you leave a med station out, teammates can heal after the noob’s inevitable death.

I have given you my opinion several times on the health packs vs med station, and I have made myself very clear. And no sorry, but SMGs are 100% easier for noobs to use. they can ads, etcetera. plus most games have bloom/bullet spread. I have said many times how it is easier to use. She has so little health, it doesnt even matter if she tries to run away. SB is not that much slower. and why are you saying all of a sudden that a noob would have incentive to follow his team mates when a little while ago you were saying the exact opposite. And the noobs med station will probs get destroyed as they have bad placement.

I really dont care about this argument anymore because I am sick of the people who dont bother to read the thread and have extremely circular reasoning.

You have your opinion, and I have mine, lets leave it at that.

(bizarreRectangle) #9

Why do you ignore our points and simply say that we don’t bother to read this thread?

(doxjq) #10

This.

I couldn’t agree less with him if I tried. Noobs are generally so bad at the game the HP doesn’t matter. Until they’ve critiqued their aim and general game craft they’re usually dead before they can even get a shot off in the first place.

With that said, I’ve found noobs if anything suit the shotguns more so as they can hopefully get one direct shot off and take your health right down or completely kill you - give them an SMG or AR and they just spray and pray and hit practically nothing. Another reason I think more of them work better with Aura.

I could go on for a while but like he said, an opinion is an opinion and nothing more, so who cares. No point arguing over it really. Each to their own.

(SaulWolfden) #11

Even as I said with me preferring Sawbonez to play as, I can admit that Aura is far easier to play since that’s what the poll is asking, which of the two is more noob friendly, not which of the two you like better or think is more useful.

(Verticules) #12

Shotgun play has the lowest skill cap in the game, nuff said.

(Amerika) #13

Shotguns are much easier to get a random kill with than an SMG for very new players. That’s their sole reason for being in the game and balanced as they are. Good for new players to get accustomed to the game mechanics and giving them pretty decent kill potential but not giving the the range required to make them crazy good for the more experienced players. If you’re only focused on killing people in the short range there is less requirements on what you have to do to get a kill.

That’s pretty much how the shotgun is uses in many other games as well.

(Hexwall) #14

Aura is faster than Sawbonez, good for noobs to run if they are in danger or ot get to downed teammates. Her station is simply to control and you don’t have to throw packs around. I would also assume they would try to go solo using his packs.

(JJMAJR) #15

I chosen Aura. I looked over the points between the two sides of the debate, and honestly I am in agreement with Aura’s position as a medic.

However, for new players, most of the time they’d rather play classes like the sniper or one of the engineers. Unfortunate that the difficulty curve is incredibly high for those classes. And, quick scoping is a thing. And, cloaks and stealth is unsuitable for snipers in DB. So really all snipers are good for is being a good complement to a player with overpowered aim.

Thus, engineers. They also have a high difficulty curve, especially Bushwacker in terms of his weapons.

Honestly though, the only use for Aura in competitive is corner camping and playing with a sidearm in ranges past what a shotgun can pull off.

I’d like to see assault rifle Sawbones cards.

(doxjq) #16

The Crotzni is pretty damn close.

(bizarreRectangle) #17

Crotzni actually has more dps than the m4 or the ak 47. Not nearly as accurate or forgiving though, 12 dmg as opposed to 14.

(JJMAJR) #18

A forgiving weapon is a weapon with a high rate of fire and high accuracy.

(solace_) #19

its funny you say that because a lot of people were just bringing up the same thing again and again. hence, they didnt read the post.

well thats your opinion isnt it. From my personal experience it was easier to treat DB as a regular shooter and play it like battlefield, taking this a bit slower, using ads and med packs. but, that was just how I found it.

I thoroughly agree, there are pros and cons to both mercs and there is not point in getting angry over such a benign topic.
