I was just wondering… cuz I m only using Photoshop, but its freggin expensive and simply overloaded for tex-work… so what do u guys use and are there any share-/ freeware gfx programs that do the same tricks that you need for textures (including alphachannels)?
Which graphics programs do you use?
as for suporting aphas i think it can be made with any editor that can export in greyscale
when the mod team were messing around with files to try and look into creating advanced skyboxes i think we found that you can use a greyscale image as a alpha chanel
this alows you to save the main image as a JPEG thats then a TGA saving a bit of memory
also i think the other advantage that it alowd the main images to scroll and move while the apha texture would remain static… so the clouds will scroll to simulate movment but as the alpha chanel doest move they will be restricted to where the alpha chanel alows
photoshop > all
gimp best free alternative (actaully never used it for real… opened it once… it can do about the same fundamentals as photoshop… photoshop has some more press/print advantages, where GIMP got some really strong scripting/automatic features.
