Which fov is better?

(Frogteam) #21

I use the lowest. I usually play Arty so I engage at longer distances often, so I find the larger heads useful.

(XavienX) #22

I like keeping it at medium range so it’s not bad for both long and short range.

(Amerika) #23

I use 75 in DB. But use whatever you are comfortable with or perform best with.

(Black) #24

I just cannot stand low. I have to turn it all the way up.

(Mister__Wiggles) #25

I set mine to 85, I find its a good medium

(Litego) #26

90 in TF2 is not the same as 90 in DB. I personally use 76, which is the same as 90 in TF2.

(B_Montiel) #27

I play at 100. After 1000 hours of chivalry where 135 vfov was usual to have a good view on your surroundings, turning lower than 90 on UE3 will make me throw up.

(Litego) #28

If I’m not mistaken Battlefield 4 allows you to set 120 vFoV.

I think UE3 is hard capped at ~130hfov anyway? (DB lets you set up to 129)

There’s no hardcap, or at least it’s higher than 130. If you have a multi monitor setup, you can use more than 130 hFoV in UE games, if they allow it. I think I used like 150 in Borderlands.

Tried it in DB, and this is how it looks:

100 vFoV set in game, translates to 162 hFoV at a resolution of 5760x1080.

(B_Montiel) #29

There’s no limitation in fov if the game allows it indeed.
Just an example of what most competitive chivalry players see in their screen :

He’s at 140 vfov, but some even went to 150 or higher.
DB uses vfov, you’re talking about hfov. 78vfov = 110hfov. No games use 120vfov, 120vfov would be 144hfov, which is ridiculously fisheyed.

I think UE3 is hard capped at ~130hfov anyway? (DB lets you set up to 129)
I use UE3 all the time and I’ve never noticed a hard-cap in-engine. You can manually set a cap for certain monitor sizes (which is of course what devs do), but in-engine itself we’ve managed to get a 360 view on a manual set-up before… It was quite amusing, if impractical.

And yeah, I know it’s fish-eyed, but I used to use it all the time in Quake and UT. 110 vFOV is probably what I’m most comfortable with, but I have cranked it up to 120 before… Would still be nice if they added that option.

Took me a while but I finally remembered about this thread. I lowered FOV from 100 to 65. First impression - wow, everything is much closer now. Second impression - did my sprint button got unbound? Due to lower FOV you have a sensation of moving slower. I couldn’t even suffer through one game. The change was just too big for me. (It wasn’t any nausea or anything, I don’t get those)

I upped it to 85. It’s been much more palatable, I’ve adapted almost immediately. I’ve kept it like that for a whole week now. I’ll be gradually decreasing it by 5 to see how low can I get.

(Rosenkreuz) #32

90, because anything less makes me sick.

(treacherousMonorail) #33

I use 65 because vertical and horizontal scales the same, optimally i would use 120 vertical and something low for horizontal.

(SteelMailbox) #34

I rock it in around 80, not too low but not too high so I will be able to see heads better when they are further away from me.
There isn’t really a best FOV just go with what suits you since in this game you have to see the enemies heads and be able to hit em consistently.
I’d say try and find the highest FOV you can find where you still are able to get headshots consistently that is the FOV you want.

#35

I’m using 65, too.
I don’t really feel the need for a higher one.
I rarely have a knife fight or something similar to make up for it.
