Which engine DB should have been built on?

Frostbite Engine

Imagine being able to take down whole buildings in Dirty Bomb. Call in an airstrike and annihilate a bridge…

As much as I disagree with adding destruction to DB, frostbite is actually a really good engine. Runs really well, has pretty good input latency, and @watsyurdeal you don’t have to use the destruction features if it doesn’t make sense (not like FIFA has destructible goals).

I’d still say going with ue4 would be best since the dev team is small and ue4 is really easy to learn and iterate with. The only problem are the default netcode settings are dogshit from what I’ve heard and the default mouse input is pretty bad too but both of those problems can be fixed.[/quote]

Personally I only care about hit reg and netcode, I could put up with a game looking like Unreal Tournament 2 for pete’s sake as long as it ran perfect. No lag, great hit reg, frames for days on almost any machine. To be honest graphics are a little over rated, good graphics doesn’t guarantee a good game. That, and I think people confuse art style with graphics, good art style is definitely what helps a game distinguish itself from the competition.

Graphics are important, thought not in a way you think…

Besides, even the most photo-realistic CGI still look fake. And Pixar movie graphics require hundreds of PC to render.

Pretty much agreed with the vid

In regards to shooters though, I think art style is key, because after Quake and COD, everything is this washed out grey scale look and modern warfare.

Imagine if Dirty Bomb had a new game born from it’s ashes, and went with an entirely different art style? Something like a weird mix of Tim Burton and Cyber Punk for example?

In terms of graphics driving gameplay, I am not sure what else can really be done. Shooters are simple, yet complex, if anything first person games, not just shooters, are the next frontier. Seeing more stuff like Mirror’s Edge and Portal.
