Which character should I buy based on these cards?

(omgwdfholypoop) #1

Hey guys, I just started playing today (I downloaded the game a long time ago but for some reason I was getting horrible FPS) but now it works great on my laptop…

Anyways I saw those holiday cards so I decided to come back and try it again and boy is this game fun. Every class is interesting but i’m having a hard time deciding on what to do first. I used the initial 30k they gave us or whatever it was on those boxes and got the christmas Arty and a gold proxy. I also have a alpha tester obsidian skin for sawbones and the alienware skin for fletcher.

Out of these skins can you guys tell me who are the best ones for a new player that mostly plays demo to pick in order? Thanks guys!

Tldr :: Best skin and character to play for new player?

  1. Obsidian Sawbone
  2. Christmas Arty
  3. Gold Proxy
  4. Alienware Fletcher

Unless we know exactly what the loadouts are, then we can’t help based on your cards.

But Sawbonez is the best medic if you want a general balance in both offense and defense. He’s also the best healer.

Arty is good for taking down the EV and harassing people at long range with his strikes.

Proxy is a good starting engineer, but pales compared to the others due to her low health.

Fletcher is amazing if you master the use of his stickies, but he has a high skill floor and an even higher ceiling if you want to make the best out of his otherwise easy to use stickies.

In the end though, it all depends on your playstyle.

Brishlok is for Sawbonez and Fletcher
Dreiss AR is for Arty
Hocfir is for Proxy

Is there anything else that changes on load out cards? Sorry didn’t even realize they had different weapons until just then lol. Thought it was only about the passives x.x

Fletcher looks really cool but arty looks a bit easier to use for a starter character. I for some reason already have sawbonez so i guess i’ll use him until I can afford one of these 2. Thanks for the help!

Proxy is the best agressive Engineer. And overall still great in comparision to the others.
Bushwacker is the best defensive Engineer. Fletcher is best MLG engineer.

Arty only has burstfire weapons, the Dreiss AR is only single shot (and underpowered). Characters that are similar to him are Kira, and some loadouts for Skyhammer. Out of these Arty has the most spammy ability, but by extension the least impactful one. To hit someone, they either need to stay still for a long time (which can happen near objectives or chokes) or you need to lead them by quite the time. It gets to a point where it’s more guessing they’ll show up in time than actually leading them. It also doesn’t work if there’s a roof, where Skyhammer’s does at least decent splash damage. It does destroy the EV really fast though.

Sawbones is really the most balanced medic, you can’t go wrong with him. Though the Brishlok is a really low rate of fire SMG. I did aweful with it on him, but I really improved once I got the Hocfir.

So now you know that, basically, all your loadout weapons are the worst weapon in the category, except for Proxy, she only gets the Hocfir or shotguns. And the Hocfir is actually pretty good among SMGs. The best maybe.

After several months I gave a chance to Blischlok again - Fletcher’s BL32 and it rekt. I think I fell in love with that gun.

Where’s the link between Sawbro and Hochfir, pal?

(RazielWarmonic) #7

If I remember right, the Obsidian Sawbonez card is pretty decent?

I’m biased, though.

(DeezNutz) #8

Proxy all new players love her

It is pretty nice, i’ve bought a few characters and realize i’m more of a offensive type of player though… Shame trading will never come around. or at least the oppurtunity to reroll perks/weapons so that I could change my alienware fletcher to Shotgun instead of smg, and quick switch . _.

I’d try Proxy. Dreiss AR is pretty weak ATM, and blishlok definitely isn’t the best gun for those mercs. Look for Crotzni on Sawbonez, that’s where it’s at.

Proxy’s speed gives you a chance to move around and learn the maps and get a feel for how and when you can best cap objectives.

If you’re dying too much sawbonez has good offense & defense and survivability. Great merc but blishlok is meh imo.

Fun game: Proxy’s mines are like super grenades, use your super speed to pop a mine in the middle of a group of enemies, shoot the mine so it blows up quickly and watch as it scores you 6 free kills.

Fletcher is a better pick for this playstyle - fast but healthier, and can throw them stickies (of which he has more of, and on shorter CD) farther than Proxy can throw her mines. I will admit that all of Fletcher’s primaries suck, and Proxy has Empire-9’s big brother the Hochfir to her advantage, but Fletcher’s still the better pick if that’s how you play. Direct hit your stickies for maximum effect.

To reply to the OP, it depends on what the loadouts are as well as what your particular playstyle is. You could give us the numbers at the top (For example, I absolutely love Bushwhacker’s C41 Vanguard Operative card, and K51 Power Gunner is a beast on Fragger. My examples were in bold, and you’ll find yours just below the name of the Merc on the card) and we’ll know what they are.

I highly doubt you were lucky enough to get a CR73 Sawbonez, KE53 Proxy, and A31 Fletcher all at once, though.

It really depends on personal preference. Proxy has the advantage of more damage and radius on her mines. If enemies manage to finish Proxy off before she can trip her mine, it can explode by itself.

Using Proxy mines as grenades is more of a desperation play than a viable strategy.
Doing that says “I expect to die so I gotta do some clutch plays” or “my team is a bunch of noobs that has no AoE” if done repeatedly.

It is an effective tactic, but the chance you get killed while throwing the mine is too high to make it a good strategy. Especially since there are mercs like Nader and Fletcher and Stoaker and Fragger.

Did I see Fletcher’s name?

No time to check
Pick Fletcher.

  5. sawbone - don’t personally play him much but he’s a solid merc with the blishlok. I reccomend this for a new player out of your list.

  6. Arty - will take some skill with whatever gun you use, probably best to not use arty until you’re more familiar with the game. If you play I recommend the Stark (or BR-16, but like stark more).

  7. proxy - one of the more difficult characters to play in the game but very fun. I started on this but was easily passing up the other players by mass amounts as soon as I started. I prefer the Hochfir.

  8. fletcher - pretty lame players usually use this because it’s cheap. It isn’t going to help you learn or anything. Not sure if you noticed but most fletchers don’t know how to aim. They only spam sticky nades and run around the corner hopping constantly instead of learning how to strafe then kill people who had 0 chance to escape the stuck nade. It’s likely the cheapest merc as far as gameplay goes in the game. I prefer the blishlok (don’t like shotguns).

Saying Proxy is difficult and Fletcher is cheap. Lel, you must know the game well.

I feel like you don’t quite grip the fact that the Blishlok is the most inconsistent gun in the game, the Empire-9 has f*ck-all for damage, and your only true chance is sticky bombs and the Empire-9 as a finisher. If you want to talk shit about it, I would suggest you stop playing Nader, which is even worse as far as spam goes.

Your opinion on Fletcher is based completely on me, and I know that. Don’t take it out on the merc though.
