WHERE'S THE AUTOSHUFFLE
I played in an OBJ game that started out 4v1 with me alone on defense for the first few minutes the other night and won (the server filled up by the end of the game). IT’S POSSIBLE IF YOU BELIEVE!!!

But yes, I personally wouldn’t mind seeing an auto-shuffle in place that will shuffle teams after 30 seconds or announce to the players that it will shuffle if their is an imbalance of 2 players or more prompting somebody to voluntarily switch. Well, not a shuffle but simply grab a person from the other team based on skill rating and put them on the opposite team to attempt to even things out. That would also keep most people on the same side as well making it all way less annoying than a typical shuffle.
I mean, yeah… A young god with a built-in aimbot like you probably can do it lol. But I would prefer a fair distribution of players instead some gimmicky 1-vs-4 matches.

The problem is mostly three things.

 1. Nothing stops people changing teams mid game. If one team has an extra player, anyone on the team with an extra player can swap to the other team whenever they want - even if that team with one less player is completely dominating. I see people swap all the time just because their team is losing. If they notice they are about to lose and have one extra player they quickly swap to the winning team in the last 3 seconds or something granting them the win. It’s totally retarded.

 2. When people quit, nothing forces an auto shuffle. I think you’re wrong by saying the game should auto shuffle when a team is getting dominated, but when it is 7v3 or something because a bunch of people left then some kind of shuffle should be forced.

 3. “Balance” is done by levels. They need some kind of matchmaking or ELO system. Level = how much time you’ve spent in game, and I’m sorry but that doesn’t indicate how good someone is. I have friends on my list who are level 40 or higher with 500+ hours and they aren’t as good as I was when I was as low as level 8 or something. I know ELO systems are pretty flawed too but it would certainly be better than the current system.

It is not. Read one of @Amerika posts about the subject, he seemingly has unlimited patience to explain it

Well if it isn’t it has been total coincidence that every time a game starts for me that is how it works out. Going by levels, teams always look like this for me.

32
25
15
10

31
26
13
9

It always balances them out so the numbers seem to match up as close as possible for me.

Can you link me to where one of his posts is though? I’m curious to know now.

It’s been talked about many times on the dev streams and has been common knowledge for as long as the game has been out. So you’d need to watch the VODs. It was also mentioned recently in the patch notes that the public balance system now goes further back. We knew it was 10 games previously and it was mentioned on a stream that it now looks at your last 25.

So people who look at the numbers and see a 46 on the other team and don’t know that the 17 on their team is actually higher rated. Due to people not knowing how the ELO system works they might be upset if they happen to lose even though, according to the ELO system (and probably performance), they were even teams. Which causes all kinds of issues. That thought process is one of the reasons why many would like to hide public levels.

Is the ELO system based off individual performance though or team based?

I’m only wondering because I come from Quake Live where the ELO system was severely flawed. Individually in duel (1v1) mode it was fine, and easy to rank, but the team modes ELO system was based on a win/loss ratio, so even if you had a game where you literally scored three times more than anybody and were easily the stand out player of the match, but were on the losing team, your ELO adjustment was simply based on the fact that you lost the match and you’d lose ELO regardless of your performance.

If it’s some how based individually though, then that system would work better, if its based on team performance though then that would explain why the balancing function is still incredibly broken.

I go through most of that in my previous posts. Some things we know and others we don’t. I’ve often talked about potential ways to improve the ELO system in ways that I am fairly certain SD isn’t currently using for their ELO system due to information we know for certain.

Fair enough then.

(blisteringOwlNest) #29

So why isn’t an Elo rating shown instead of levels in a match? Is there any reason to keep it hidden?
(And I know next to nothing about coding or game design, in case I sound silly)

@OP it’s good to take a deep breath and take a moment to think how you make your post. I understand your anger, but we all face the same issue.

I love the game despite it’s balance issues. I am convinced that this will be fixed one way or another. I personally think that we might start with disabling the player levels to be visible. Let’s see what happens. People might truly change their behavior.

Another issue is when there are different numbers of players on each team. That needs to be looked at from slightly different perspective.
