Where does everyhing go?

(thicko) #1

I downloaded q3map2 but i dont know what to do next. after reading the readme.txt and readme_previous.txt it said it must sit in it’s own directory and gave the example of

C:/path/to/Quake3/Radiant/

which doesnt make any sense to me.

do i put the q3map2.exe into the gtkradiant folder and get rid of the old q3map.exe? and what about the rest of the files, where do they go?

Radiant directory in Quake3

Or you can make your own dir for it anywhere and make some batch files that point to the right files. thats what I do

or you can idd just overwrite the install in GTK. That’s what I do.

But the readme file says

“IT MUST SIT IN ITS OWN DIRECTORY inside the game dir. It cannot
sit in the same directory as GtkRadiant as the DLL versions are
different.”

Are you guys saying I can just dump all the files from the new 2.5.2 release into my q3/gtkradiant folder and everything will be peachy?

If you have GtkRadiant 1.2.11+ then unzip only the q3map2.exe to overwrite the old one in GtkRadiant’s folder.

I actually copy and overwrite all the files in the GTKRadiant directory with those unzipped from q3map2. It works fine.

It’s probably not a good idea to overwrite the GtkRadiant DLLs with those included with Q3Map2. You never know when they might be different (and they have been, in the past) and end up corrupting your GtkRadiant install.
