Where are the players?

Hi. I’m Australian and I bought this game for the PS3 2 weeks ago. I’m also not sure where this should go, but I guess a mod or something can fix that later…
I’ve been playing offline and now I’m level 17. Offline is starting to get stale so I tried online for the last 2 days.

70% of the time I find no one, the rest of the time one person and only ever once 2 people in the same match. (Of whom were on the enemy team. Yeah you can probably imagine how that felt…)
To make things worse, the connection eventually fails out or the host leaves.

My questions/suggestions are basically…:
-Why is there no such thing as a NO RANK RESTRICTION option? (I do not want to honestly have to make a new character to have the lowest rank possible just to maximise my chances of finding actual people. It more or less disallows me to use any of the abilities I earned.)
-Which match settings should I be picking? Who the hell plays what, having to scroll through 4 of them to find people is annoying as hell.
-Why no browser like the PC version? That alone would fix almost everything to do with online. (Don’t tell me to grab the PC version, I tried on the Steam weekend. It runs but with all the constant framerate drops I got it simply doesn’t like my computer enough for it to be playable too much of the time. And no I’ll get a new computer in my own time, thank you.)

I love the gameplay, creativity and ideas of it but when playing with only the AI, the game gets old faster and more irritating then it should be. As soon as offline completely loses its appeal, I’m likely to sell it. I don’t want to have to resort to adding random people to my friendlist just to actually have a match happening. I seriously shouldn’t have to go that far.

I’d buy Brink 2 in a heartbeat if it gets made because I know they’ll get everything right that time, but thanks to reception… yeah. And considering that this could easily be my new TF2 if online was actually a reality for me, that really, really sucks.

I apologise if this looks like another ranting thread (I’ve been lurking a little) but considering that I actually LIKE the game, this problem I’m having saddens and irritates me.

Reason for No RANK Restriction: New players get destroyed now because of the rank gaps.
I have no idea what the population is like on PS3.
I play on Xbox. I play with a group of friends, forum members, and added many Brink gamers to my friend’s list,
so I rarely lack for people to play with.
I have also played in random matches, and they’re full of 16 people, for me.
I choose Objective then Standard mode. Many times you have to play at least one full match so there’s enough time for
people to join.
Stopwatch is ignored in terms of population. I wish they’d just delete the playlist with a patch, and move Stopwatch into an option beneath Objective so that the menu would read:
Objective
Standard
Competitive
Small Teams
Stopwatch

If you go to the Community Game Nights at the top of the forum page, you will find a link to other PS3 gamers on this forum. I suggest you perhaps hook up with them to play. They are very cool people and should be fun to play with.

Good luck.

Check NAT.

Full lobby yesterday. Maybe they split the servers by location. Want me to add you?

What time are you playing? Get hooked into one or more of the chat room lobbies (PS3 users I need friends AND Big Teams Chat Lobby, both are on the front page of this forum)…then you can get into matches regardless of location restriction (the matchmaking makes a decision for you, and it’s pretty restrictive)

I’ve even stopped using the chat lobbies lately b/c so many people are on (w/ the exception of this afternoon…it was DEAD), but they are a good start for finding people… On good nights its 8v8 nonstop. on bad nights, 4v4s and above…

(there is hope)

Ok I’ll try the chatroom thing then.

Thanks guys.
(Also I’ve been checking randomly. Over the period of like 3 days I’ve tried midnight, morning, afternoon, night…)

What’s your GMT+/- though?

It seems the filters are pretty restrictive when it comes to network path-distance, so there could be a raging set of games, but if you didnt have a way to access those games, it wouldnt matter. The chat/lobbies are one way that people find games. The other is to add people who play at the same times as you (as PSN friends) and jump into their games. Both of these bypass the internal (and non-transparent) network filters that make it hard to find other players, especially if you’re playing someplace where there aren’t as may folks playing.

GMT +10.
And I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if nobody in Australia plays Brink (everyone is so mainstream here it’s ridiculous…)

When I can I will check out the two topics and try to join in then, because again, nothing’s happening for me otherwise.

Brink in Australia is dead, it’s not because Australia is mainstream but mainly because of the shallow gameplay. Most servers here are dead and closed down.It resurrected for awhile when the dlc got released with quite a few full servers but now it’s dead again. Good Luck finding a game.

Active pro scene’s for Halo, CoD, Fifa and Streetfighter. Hardly mainstream.
