When is the 2nd part of Summer Squash?

(frostyvampire) #1

I honestly was expecting it to be released on August 25th but there was nothing other than the crafting week.
I was wondering if you know (and can share) the expected date for the 2nd part of Summer Squash to be released.

P.S. Also I’d like to know if the Thunder nerf is a bug or it was intended.
And if it were intended then why was there nothing about it in the patch notes?

(Tanker_Ray) #2

Yeah. The Flash effect reduction. Just noticed it yesterday.

If they give up to increase the CD and take care of machine guns, I’ll be pissed.

Other than that, I’m actually curious if August Fine-Tuning is included in Summer Squash.

My neck is going giraffe waiting for merc/weapon balance changes, though they don’t have much to fix nowadays. (I love how M4/Timik and all SMGs are stable right now.)

(TheStrangerous) #3

The better question is: How many parts will there be? Just because there’ll be Part 2 eventually, that doesn’t mean we won’t get Part 3.

(Jan S.) #4

I hope there will be no need to call it Autumn Squash.

(AlphaUT) #5

To be consistent and to make weather forecasting easier, meteorologists divide the year into 4 meteorological seasons of 3 months each:
Spring - from March 1 to May 31;
Summer - from June 1 to August 31;
Fall (autumn) - from September 1 to November 30; and,
Winter - from December 1 to February 28 (February 29 in a leap year).

Copy from the internet, so I guess before September LOL?

If you’re asking the players, no one has a god damn clue. If you’re asking the developers, they’ll be very happy to share that information with you.

Just kidding.

This was to be expected with them. Granted, there’s still 4 days left so we’ll see what happens until then. But yeah, very slow development, changing things/balancing without saying anything about it in patch notes… You name it.

Just look at the state the game is in right now. Basing ourselves on content only, if we remove the mercenaries that were already there in the closed alpha stage, they’ve released a game mode, three new maps, two new weapons, a new anti-cheat and the second gen of cards. Since Dirty Bomb’s open beta release date was the 6th of February 2015, that means that all of that content was released within 18 months (1 year and 6 months) of development. So SD cracking down on bugs may very well be a very very slow process.

It’s pretty impressive in a very negative way. I’m feeling generous so I’ll add bug fixes and balance changes into the mix even though it doesn’t really help much.

So “Summer squash” isn’t looking too hot right now. Unless we’re not only talking about the summer of 2016. I mean who knows how many parts there will be. With the amount of bugs, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re in for more than a trilogy. We might reach Friday the 13th levels of parts. Once we get to part 4 labeled as the “Final chapter”, since these bugs always fuckin’ return and never die, we’ll have “A new beginning” in part 5 and so on.

Your post in the other thread at least had the vague notion of being commentary/constructive but this reeks of eau du crusade. I don’t get how you can completely discount the added mercs either - Aimee had to get completely reworked didn’t she?

Well I don’t really see anything wrong with my post here except for 2 disagrees and no body to tell me why that is. I’m explaining that a patch called “Summer Squash” may just end up being “Winter Squash” or worst and I explained why that is based on SD’s history with DB. Again, speculation, right? That’s all we have and that’s all we can do.

So now whoever reads my post will be a little smarter and know SD a little more. You can add Aimee in there if you want. Doesn’t justify 18 months of development in my opinion. It’s not like they had to make her from scratch.

Back on Summer Squash. Will there be a part 2 @blonk ? If yes, when do you think that’ll happen?

should we ask @RazielWarmonic or @stayfreshshoe about is there a fine tuning in the patch on 25 august? i also saw the thunder conc effect. or is it just bug?

(MarsRover) #10

AFAIK they said there will be “multiple patches”. Two is technically “multiple” but that would be disappointing :slight_smile:

(The_N00Ba) #11

They will get done what they can get done. I don’t think being over picky on the wording really helps any one. I think “Summer Squash” was an attempt at having fun. “Summer Squash” sounds to me a lot better than bug fix # something something something. :slight_smile:

(AlphaUT) #12

Well, to be honest, September is belongs to summer season for me and I also believe for some people, so my limit is the end of September. If till that still no part 2, good luck SD. Let’s hope there won’t have many threads about how SD gives a hope and kill it again.

I’m not fussed, in fact in a lot of ways I’d rather they didn’t keep squashing these things out (squirting? oozing?). I’d rather they put efforts into maps first, and had this squashy beast running in the background, perhaps dedicate a small team just to fixing bugs (not uncommon in software) and let the rest of the guys continue with game content and improvements. The recent announcement regarding balance sounds kinda like that’s what’s happening anyway, which is good.

(aminuseternal) #14

@blonk Well it is easier to work on things when they are working correctly. From what I understand, is that DB has some really bad Spaghetti code, which is why a bunch of things break after they make a fix. So adding new stuff into that would probably make the fixes slower, or make new problems. :s

(frostyvampire) #15

@blonk
Splash Damage isn’t a big company. I don’t know if they have the money to hire enough people for this. I’m pretty sure they already have something similar but less people than there should be, but now for the Summer Squash, most devs started working only on bug fixes while only a few work on other stuff. But I might be wrong.

What I would love them to do is actually test bugs that they said they fixed to make sure they are really fixed and that there isn’t any new bug created because of that.

For example: They fixed Aura’s health station glow staying after the station is destroyed, but now 90% of the time the glow completely disappears even if the health station is still up. They were supposed to test it and notice this bug and fix it as well.
Another example is that they said they fixed the bug where you couldn’t see your mission progress in the pre-game lobby (by clicking on your profile pic on top of the screen). I still had this bug the first time I went on a server and wanted to see my mission progress. It wasn’t fixed at all

(n-x) #16

@FrostyVampire when did they fix the Aura healing Station Bug? All I ever read was that they are testing a fix.

(kopyright) #17

“Summer Squash: Origins” - starring Alec Baldwin as @stayfreshshoe and Scarlett Johansson as @RazielWarmonic

They aren’t a big company but unless the comments about there being around 1 developer working on the game at a given time are true surely they have the resource to delegate stuff like this around? If you look at the team pictures and the backgrounds of the streams you can see there are quite a few staff members, not necessarily people who are involved in development of course, some of them will no doubt be there to set up the fried chicken arm of Splash Damage (chicken damage? splash fried chicken? colonel shoe’s chicken pool party?)

(frostyvampire) #19

@Kelben
I haven’t seen this bug since the update. Not a single healing station glow on the floor without a healing station.
But now, pretty much 80% of the health stations I see don’t have the glow at all. Mainly happens after the station was EMP’d and then the EMP effect wore off but the glow still didn’t appear but I also saw this bug when there were no Phantoms’ on the enemy team at all so it’s not only caused by EMP

(Chris Mullins) #20

Hey @FrostyVampire. We’re planning on getting the Summer Squash Part II out next week and the third installment a couple of weeks following. Neither of these two updates will include map changes, that will come in another update later on (doesn’t have a release date yet) as these take a lot more time to do than the bugfixes.
