When is Phantom going to be balanced?

If you want easy one hit kills while being a bullet sponge tank where people could do nothing about it and want to play as “melee only” you are going to be waiting for a long time I’d wager.

He has really good guns. The Katana is coming to other mercs and doesn’t define him. So, yeah, try to remember that. He might get changed in some ways but he won’t be the rush down tank he was before. And yes, please go read all the other threads discussing this topic as there are some interesting conversations.

Watch the trailer, he completely disappears than stabs someone in the back. Now tell me katana doesnt define him, its way too obvious he was intended to be a melee’er. And they wanted to chance that, that is completely fine. However his stealth needs a serious buff, its completely useless for stealth, they may just aswell rename him to something else because he is not stealth at all. Anyone above level 4 easly notice me even from a very long range, anyone below level 4 just stare at me trying to figure what i am.

If you watch the trailer you’ll notice a lot of things that aren’t correct in regards to the trailer. He also only has a pistol. Also, the role call trailer is the one that actually says what Phantom is about. It only “introduces” the Katana. Also, the devs immediately said it and other soon to be introduced melee weapons WOULD NOT BE UNIQUE TO THOSE MERCS. This has been said many times in all of these threads by quite a few people. Also, if we go off trailer logic he runs at people shooting a pistol as well.

I can make a case for the world being flat based on small pieces of evidence that I’ve cherry picked from sources. It doesn’t make it true

Y’all need to chill, 'kay? That was my brothers rant on Phantom. I sat down with him and talked for a while on all of your guyses points but seriously. No need for name calling here…

(Despaniard) #23

I’m also going to ask all of you to debate this without calling each other brainless monkeys, that too much to ask?

Now, my brother wrote this I’d say a week and a half ago. I was also there when Phantom was considered OP. Many of you have talked about how he was overpowered and I agree with you that his Katana was a weapon of mass-destruction. I understand that phantom was never meant to be a tank that could absorb bullets and I understand that some people had problems with his invisibility.

Overall, I believe that he is an assassin. Assassins are supposed to sneak around, difficult to detect and have a high damage output with little amount of attacks. If… “less-experienced” players (noobs) think that phantom is OP I’m going to take that with a grain of salt. Now, not all of you are noobs, you are experienced, you are seasoned veterans of the field of Dirty Bomb war. Unfortunately, I have reason to believe that he has been punished severely. That health lower? Unnecessary. Cloak nerf? Unnecessary. Katana nerf? Necessary. Cloak resistance to damage? Necessary. Cloak loudness? Unnecessary.

I must thank you all that debated with a cool head and refrained from name calling. I paid attention to your contributions. The others… I still read, but judged harshly the writers of said comments.

And if the Katana goes to other mercs I’ll go on a server killing spree so hard no one will come out the same.

The problem right now is actually still partly with the slow melee turn, especially on his lunge attack. The lunge attack’s range also has a bug or got nerfed cuz it has the same range as the quick slash attack. Also, maybe his cloak needs to be just slightly less visible.

Honestly, they should remove the turn speed limit, set him back to the way he was at launch, except for the whole damage bleeding through the refractive armor, keep that, it’s what balances that shit anyhow.

The armor part was the most infuriating thing about Phantom. It was a bad idea and unneeded at first place. The armor part should go. The invisibility’s efficiency should be reverted back to it’s previous state after that. Not sure about the cooldown though, a 6 seconds cooldown with a 6 seconds invisibility seemed off.

The second thing wrong with Phantom was his lack of teamplay. This is why I suggested a lot of time to not cancel the invisibility when doing contextual actions (objective play, help up…). A cloaked Phantom reviving a medic could be an awesome thing to put in place. @Watsyurdeal also suggested to give Phantom another ability.

Maybe we could also allow him to attack without interrupting the cloak, but your will flicker as long as you attack. Also, no more invisibility drain when you got damaged, but you’ll appear briefly upon taking damage, allowing a good player to keep track on you with an automatic weapon… But I am more cautious about those two idea. It does not seem like bad ideas to me, but I can plainly understand why one would be against that. Extending the cloak duration could be a thing too, especially if we allow Phantom to do more things while invisible. But if you do it, increase the CD again.

All those changes would give Phantom much more versatility than before, while giving him teamplay options. And the right thing would be done : if you’re spotted, you should eat lead !

The 110 hps feels fine to me though. I wouldn’t revert it too quickly. Oh and there’s also people that suggested to cut the Refractive Armor in two : an armor part and an invisibility part. An idea that could also be interesting IMO.

Interesting yes but I feel like it doesn’t fit with his role.

It’s clear here’s a close anti thesis to Vasilli and Red Eye, he’s a close range specialist who is ideal for flanking and getting key picks in otherwise impossible scenarios. Like killing Sparks and Aura, or getting a Vasilli sitting behind rock on chapel.

Honestly I think something to do with deployables was a smarter route since that causes the most problems on pubs. Like a Rhino sitting on a healing station, or mines in places people can’t see coming, or turrets, or a guy on a mounted Machine Gun.

All of these things Phantom is so close to being able to take care of better than anyone else, he just isn’t quite there yet. He needs work.
