When a character dies and ragdolls, why is he invunerable?

(triteTongs) #1

I get a feeling it takes so many bullets to kill someone who is downed. I think I figured out why:

When an enemy is ragdoll falling to the ground… NO BULLETS AFFECT THEM. They are invulnerable until they are laying there. This is a huge problem in why it feels like it takes so much ammo.

You can test this by going vasilli and shooting someone as they fall to the ground. You get a headshot dink but they won’t die. But normally 1 headshot on a downed player will kill them.

I normally try to keep shooting a player who is falling to the ground, but now I realize I’m just wasting ammo. Is this intended? Why isn’t there a 100% Shield icon on them when they are ragdolling then?

And would fixing this help fix some of the revive spam?

You can most definitely deal damage to somebody during the ‘ragdoll’ fall to the ground.

Nope, OP is correct.
I used to be able to finish players with sniper headshots, and sometimes bodyshots too, during the ragdolling phase.
This was most likely changed, to what it is now, to allow a chance to res these players.
^This is probably not intentional at all, just bugged.

It’s really annoying as a sniper, because you end up wasting a shot, that you could had spent much better, but it can be very annoying to full auto weapon users, too.

I know that earlier today I was able to knife people as they were falling ragdoll(I don’t snipe). Definitely before they hit the ground in my case.

Was this really changed? I remember being able to do so before.

This is weird because I have seen other people say the same thing but I’ve never noticed that personally.

Same here. I killed people with knife AND bullets, while they were still falling.

someone had a sexy fragmovie with a mid-air shotgun-shot gib.

It could still be true that sometimes the hits don’t count.

(Tomme) #8

I suspect like other games, while a model is a ragdoll there hitboxes are inaccurate; sometimes just plain messed up. Would make sense with the mixture of results people are getting.

(Ardez1) #9

Particularly if they are looking around as they fall. As you know this can trigger the body to switch directions after ragdolling as well, which pisses off many a sniper

(Amerika) #10

For a while this was bugged and any damage you did during the ragdoll fall that wasn’t a knife hit didn’t count as damage. It most definitely counts now.

(triteTongs) #11

You can knife someone ragdoll falling, and you should be able to get the finish… but for sniper it’s really weird. The hitboxes for all things sniper are really weird (healing stations don’t have a hitbox, turrets don’t have a hitbox). I don’t know if it’s by design or not

I know you can knife while they fall down, but I just didn’t know about the bullets.

I keep feeling that it always takes so many more bullets to kill someone as I hit him falling down verses waiting till he’s on the ground.

I’m betting it’s the ragdolls + hitboxes not being correct.
At one point, I even tried to kill a downed aura with my shock paddles. I tried 3 times. Then I died. In the death screen, I saw the dead aura FLIP AROUND to a spot where the TRUE hitboxes were. There’s no other explanation for why I missed 3 times with the paddles.

I think that, what @triteTongs is saying, is correct. This is probably related to the broken hitboxes.
Corpses sliding all over the place, and deployables not taking damage from sniper shots etc.
This is a big problem in a game, that’s meant to be competitive, so I hope that this is being thoroughly investigated.

Yep i noticed the same with sniper rifles and smg’s but with a knife it’s fine.
something is really weird there, i hope this can be fixed.
