What's your opinion on Fletcher?

(Venokk) #1

I’ve been playing Fletcher for a while and I can safely say that the feeling of immense satisfaction when you sticky kill someone in unexpected ways is slowly turning into pity. If I were to be the victim of a remorseful sticky assault, I’d be majorly upset. Either people are not bothered by Fletchers skillfully gibing, just trying to hide their rage or they’re killing Fletchers as a line of work, the variety of opinions on this mercenary is astounding. Feel free to leave your comment telling us your point of view on Fletcherism.

P.S. IMO, Fletcher is bae :3

How could we nerf someone so generous with his sticky little gifts?

(JJMAJR) #3

That sounds SO suggestive.

(Venokk) #4

For some nice “sticky little gifts” they take a really short time to prepare wink wink

(watsyurdeal) #5

A cooldown nerf wouldn’t be a bad idea honestly.

Perfectly fine. A good cross between Nader and an Engineer. Far from sharing her firepower while keeping nice combat abilities, suitable for offense, slightly less powerful in defense.

While it’s a pain in the ass to fight a skilled fletcha, they’re reasonably rare and surprisingly defensive. I think fletcha is only truly “op” in the hands of a master, as any class is.

I hate fighting him because of the style of play that Fletcher’s have to use is annoying to me but I don’t feel he’s OP at all. Pretty much good Fletcher constantly jumps off of everything while throwing stickies. Combine that tactic with 120base HP and even if you’ve got great aim and they miss their stickies you will probably still die to another guy coming around the corner because it took forever to kill the Fletcher. Also, you can never chase a low HP Fletcher unless you want to be blown up.

Nerf stickies buff primaries. Too much explosive power, better than Nader in fact.

(Mr-Penguin) #10

He’s a bit too spammy for my taste. Often I can go entire games without even touching my guns.

(bizarreRectangle) #11

Good fletchers are very rare, yet when I encounter one on any server, people are always raging. Most fletchers I see just jump around and try to be sniff, they miss all of their stickies. He’s far from a spammy no-skill merc.

Merc as a whole is very rage-inducing. Tricky hit-and-run flanker. Can control the fight provided you’re in the right place. Lots of tricks up his sleeveless shirt, whoever designed this guy is a genius.

For me, it kind of depends on the map and the mercenaries I got on my squad.

Close quarter map without my Nader? Well, it is a bit annoying to get all those stickies and shotgun shots straight at my own face.

But… all I have to do is get my Nader and bounce grenades beyond Fletcher’s straight line of throw. (And ultimately most Fletchers tend to chance their mercenary.) Or alternatively, stick to open areas because Fletchers tend to be kind of crappy over distances. (Doesn’t mean they cannot shorten the distance pretty fast with long jumps etc, but a distance is your friend against a Fletcher.)

some misinformation here: fletcher has 110hp; and is most definitely better on defense

Despite being an avid Fletcher player (my best merc, first cobalt, yadda yadda), I do think his stickies do need to be nerfed a wee bit. I’m fine with sticking an enemy and doing a hundred damage, but I think his stickies’ max damage when I don’t stick someone should be about 70. Just because one shotting an Aura or Sparks without sticking them kinda feels undeserved.
However, the term “definitely not balanced” isn’t my opinion. He’s not unbalanced honestly, just the stickies need to be nerfed, a bit. Fletcher takes a sh*t ton of skill, and mastering him is kinda the best thing in the universe. That’s not unbalance, it’s just high skill=high reward.

On the other hand, Sparks and Aura are the fastest mercs available, they should probably be able to dodge a slow projectile. Also Sparks should fight at long range, where she’ll get a clear advantage, so only Aura should have that much trouble, which is understandable since she’s supposed to be weak against explosive users.

If you manage to plow a Sparks that tried to 1v1 you at mid range with your stickies, the issue comes more from that Sparks IMO.

I think balance wise he’s about right. His explosives sacrifice damage output for control and ease of use, skilled naders and fraggers will still do much better, which is made up for by him being an engineer and having a machine pistol.

I think he could do with some changes to the way his grenades get detonated though. The weapon switch before he presses the detonator make them feel very clunky, particularly with the quick draw augment. I very often end up switching to the detonator before the throw animation has been completed cancelling the throw. Since he throws them with one hand I think making him hold the detonator in the other hand getting rid of all weapon switch time would reduce this quite a bit. Instead the detonation time could be increased to make up for this lost time. The quick draw could be made to reduce the detonation time as much as it originally did whilst still affecting weapon switch times. Makes no sense, but does it really matter? It would make him feel much more consistent.

I would’ve actually voted for “(…) but definitely not balanced.” for the sole reason that Proxy needs a Buff.
If we nerf fletcher, we’ll have to nerf Bushwacker at some point and then the engis become this very needed but more unwanted class to play.

Just buff Proxy and get on with it
