What's up with the lag? Just me?

Previously, the servers seemed better. Not sure what happened or when, but things changed. People with higher pings don’t run as smoothly as they did a year ago, and by high pings I mean anything over 80 is pushing it. There’s lots of rubberbanding, bullets not registering, getting killed behind walls constantly, etc… This is not just from me, but I see other people experiencing it as well. Also, trying to hit a player with over 150 ping is difficult because they’re teleporting everywhere.

But besides that, I’ve been lagging a lot over the last couple months. It’s a lot of rubberbanding and what not. I brushed this off as my connection, but my ping has been stable for the most part at around 30-80 on U.S. East servers. It generally fluctuates by 6 at the most so it’s not sporadic or anything. Pile this on with those annoying freezes that don’t seem to have vanished just yet, and it makes the game difficult to play.

The game used to be very smooth when I first started playing, November 2015. In mid-late 2016, lots of problems arose and the game became much less smooth. Just wondering what happened? I know some of this may be due to my internet or something, but a lot of it seems to just be the servers as far as I know. I see people mentioning it all the time in-game, not just me.

Guess it’s just me. :’(

I’m sure alot of people uninstalled the game once they realised Thunder wasn’t getting nerfed

Lmao.

On a more serious note, I can’t even play the game because the lag is so bad. Could just be my internet company, AT&T.

Also something else I noticed is that Fletcher’s stickies still don’t work properly, Thunder’s nerf didn’t really help anything because his flash still flashes through walls and when you’re turned around, and Stoker’s molotov still feels much weaker than it was before the accidental/silent nerf (unless I’m missing something). Not sure what happened with Stoker, but ever since they fixed that gibbing issue that arose when they added the different color flames, his molly became much weaker/useless.

The freezes come and go for me. For a little while after the past two updates my game would freeze momentarily, usually shortly after the start of a match. After a while it just seems to stop. Sounds like a bigger issue for other players still. Fire in the Skies brought back some stutters and mouse issues for me.

I agree that players with high and/or fluctuating pings can be hard to aim at despite the peeking advantage low latency provides. Sometimes it feels like my mouse movement slows down, other times it’s just a bit difficult to track due to jittery movements. Nobody likes playing with or against high ping but with the current server locations and playerbase it’s unavoidable. Thankfully the prediction/compensation in DB works well (up to a point). Trades and deaths after you’ve made it behind cover are still gonna happen.

I do hope any issues with mouse input related to FPS drops/stutters and/or latency are resolved ASAP.

No real problems here and I’m in US East, same as you. Maybe it’s your internet?

Thing is, the prediction/compensation used to be much better, so much better that high pings weren’t even noticeable most of the time. Something changed and things got much worse.

I suppose it is just my internet though with the lag. Trying to narrow down the problem will be close to impossible though and getting the internet company to come out and do everything I’ve already done is pointless. Really gotta consider switching back to Comcast/Xfinity despite their shitty customer service.

Honestly hate that internet is so bad/expensive in the U.S. compared to parts of Asia that are just blowing us out of the water. All due to greed. We could have the same super high internet speeds as like Japan if these companies weren’t so greedy/didn’t have a monopoly in so many parts of the U.S. :’(

sucks this shit is happening to me during the event though. I can’t even play as of now lol

I’ve had my own experiences with some fluctuation stability lately. Most of the games I’ve 28-32 ping and all fine. but somehow I still can get killed around corners and see people rubber banding with nearly same ping as mine. Only thing that can cause this is the server. The game uses client side hit detection(what in my opinion isn’t good for a fps), so if the server have even a minor delay you feel it in the hit detection from your shots and from shots of your enemy. I’ve lost count how many times I hit a hs as sniper, get the hit detection and the sound triggered and yet I did no damage to the enemy. I understand its a beta but feel server stability and high tickrate is very important for even semi-competative ranked matches.

I switched to other games from DB because of bad server performance as well. After seeing yesterday’s dev video, my thoughts were:
Ranked match balance improved? Gotta look around on the forums to find out if that is real!

Came to the forums, and the first thing that caught my eye was this thread…

yeah i’m still getting some serious lag spikes.

(Xenithos) #11

My own lag spikes are from my own internet, I already know that so I don’t bother thinking anymore that it’s DB. If it is, which it’s not because it happens in any online shooter or faster paced game, I’d be throwing it up on here on the forums like nobody’s business too.
