whats up with the backpacks?

(LastGun) #1

whats their purpose? it seems every security guy has a blue one. and it seems like every resistence guy has a large black sack on his back, is it for easy notification of freinds and enemies? or is it class specific? ( i thought the gloves told you that?)
…to me it just seems to mess up the whole custimization theme of the game. like lets say i want a green color pallet guy (the game says well here is a big Noticable blue backpack now deal with it) :frowning:

I’m pretty sure the colors are faction specific and the type of backpack is class specific.

(LastGun) #3

idk man check out the ready and able trailer it seems every player has the same type of backpack or sack depending on faction.

(Whydmer) #4

I think in the future Fanny-packs (dick-bags) were outlawed and so everyone had to carry their chapstick and other essentials (Sea air can be rough on your lips) in a big back pack. I don’t know I might be off base though.

(Herandar) #5

To carry supplies.

I believe at one point they were trying to make the backpacks an aid in identifying the class of your opponent, but I don’t think it worked out. The vestigial remnants of that sytem might still be in the game, but I’m not certain.

(RadBrad31) #6

Considering our characters can give a lot to other players, I’d say it’s to explain our “supplies”. The ones that regenerate in the bottom left. The ones we can use to buff/revive other players. The grenades and molotovs and what not. I wonder if we get shot, from the side, in the backpack if it causes damage? Probably?

(obliviondoll) #7

I think the gloves tell the player their own class, and the backpacks tell them their teammates’ (and probably enemies’) classes. It’s not easy to get yourself into position to check your friends hands and say “Oh, you’re a Medic! Fix me?” Looking at the backpack would be an easier option

(Herandar) #8

No, the easiest option that they ended up going with is having the class icon appear next to the player name.

(Shadowcat) #9

But for those who choose to simplify their hud, there are always the backpacks.

Even if backpacks are the same for everyone, at least it makes more sense than hammerspace.

(tokamak) #10

Now let’s hope the different coloured backpacks replace the obnoxious goo and we’re all happy.

(Shadowcat) #11

the rim lighting came after the backpack idea. The fact that they remained is probably to allow players to turn it off and still do fine.

(system) #12

The backpack has been invented to easily carry large amounts of toilet paper. I thought everyone knew this.

(H0RSE) #13

Are you still going on about this?..

(Nail) #14

I thought the backpacks were to carry all the baggage people will bring from CoD

(tokamak) #15

Oh yes, and I will keep going on about it.

I have to say though, the two tutorial videos didn’t seem to show it that much. It’s not as bad as the ‘Matter of Class’ video. I just really hope it’s a development within the process and not just a matter of different environments.

(trigg3r) #16

i liked the idea of different backpacks for each class, but it looks like they didn’t go that way.

(amazinglarry) #17

Did nobody here play ET? Especially Nail? I know he didn’t…

Backpacks in that game were class specific, and they were pretty easy to spot. QW was a bit different, but only just. It was still easy to recognize different classes in that game. I really doubt (again) based on their other games, they’d limit class recognition to a pair of freakin gloves.

Please god, don’t let me be wrong.

(Nail) #18

I actually have played W:ET, I even have a little fan site

Please don’t lie. Nobody likes liars.

“Spitting’s a dirty habit.”

“I know a worse one.”

And again, yeah I know they were smarter (or should be) than basing it on gloves. I mean, sure it worked for OJ with his “Operative” gloves… I like the icon idea.
