What's The Storyline/Lore and Theme of Dirty Bomb

(Black) #1

I’ve been looking around the wiki and videos of Dirty Bomb and I’m just not sure what the proposed Lore and theme of Dirty bomb that is well at least intended.

For the lore, most sites and the Dirty Bomb: Mercs in Training video say something along these lines:
“In a apocalyptic, radioactive, wasteland of London, mercenaries team up and battle for riches and glory.”
I don’t understand it.

Mercenaries are killing others for poops and giggles? Why would something as serious as escorting a E.V. to take down a whole building and stealing drug samples be something of riches and bragging rights? Especially when the announcer is telling you half the time to: “DEFUSE THE ******* C4!”

As for the theme It seems like to has changed from the pre-alpha because it looked like a dark, gloomy, horrific theme such as gears of war. Everything was dark and monochromatic, even the voice of the announcer was serious.

But in the beta everything changed to be bright and colorful to the mercs having comical dialogue to the announcer saying comical things.

Step 1 ~ Boom
Step 2 ~ Fight
Step 3 ~ ???
Step 4 ~ Profit

Change was prob because of who decided to help publish the game, they wanted something a little brighter and possibly competitive against TF2.

As for the lore, some sort of contamination occurred, and it’s spreading throughout London. And to my knowledge there are two groups fighting for the leftover territory, NCA, and someone else.

In the aftermath of a mysterious radiological attack on London, intense battles rage in the city’s streets. Teams of mercenaries, some reputable and some not, fight to extract or destroy the secrets left behind. But the real goals remain unclear.

Mercs have back-stories too. We will be releasing them periodically

I assume that the mercs are fighting over corporate secrets that were left behind after the aftermath of this “Dirty Bomb” incident. That’s just my theory, anyways.

I’m assuming, going by the name…and this is just a theory…someone set off a Dirty bomb in London…I don’t really have anything beyond that but that explains the radioactivity and the abandoned city.

Recall Shoe saying something about one side being the corporation that you see plastered over items/equipment etc on the maps. They were paid to run the “clean up” mission after the radiological attack.

I think the idea is that one team of mercs is a Blackwater-type PMC working for the corp, while the others are trying to plunder the “corporate secrets” as @derpypenguinz19 mentioned.

It’ll probably turn out that the corp caused the accident in the first place and then paid themselves billions to fix the problem, much like Jennings & Rall in the Jericho TV show.

Of course, Boris Johnson will turn out to be the villain masterminding it all…

In that case, @Calico, then the game would sound suspiciously similar to the plot for a Tom Clancy book. What really interests me is how there could possibly be more than one of the same merc per team storywise. I know it’s just a game, but if there’s a story related reason to how there could possibly be a whole team of Skyhammers, thinngs could get…interesting.

Yeah, it’s stretching it a bit. Clones for a soldier army - what a crazy idea.

I’m assuming that some are officially on one side, even if you can play them all. Proxy vs Fletcher, Sawbonez vs Aura, Arty vs Skyhammer etc.

Was wondering about that too. Thing that puzzles me most is: if it’s a radioactive wasteland, how come mercenaries can run around without protection??

Also the 2 teams are identical, there is no back story to what factions or powers they belong.

I’m usually not a sucker for lore, but come on, you can do a little better than it is now, right?

This is a future london. Corporate interests and rich people want things inside. That’s why you’re normally destroying/stealing things.

Oh I get it now. The new video on dirty bomb explains it a little bit more.

“Future london, unknown terrorists have set off several dirty bombs around the city. During that time people had to lock down to escape the fallout. In the lockdown shelters there are things people have left behind that others would want.”
