What's the point of Homing Beacon?

Sarcasm aside, it just seems like the people who make the rules are trying to make games predictable, and operatives thrive on causing chaos. With these rules, they are crippling an already seldom used class.[/QUOTE]

No, they aren’t trying to make the games predictable. They’re just trying to make matches not 100% borefests of full hold after full hold after full hold after full hold after full hold.

Unlike Splash Damage who had and have the capability to (well, maybe they’ve proven themselves to be incapable, but they are at least still were and are responsible for) modifying actual game mechanics, competitive players can only just ask that players not use certain abilities, which is undesirable, but because of the devs, sadly necessary.

No suitable explanation (yet) of why the operative is basically banned supports the “makes a less boring game” claim.
Can you tell us why comp considers the operative as too defensive? It seems most people here think it’s strong on offence and would make the game less boring / less defensive.

What is sad is that you often will never get a reason as many of these leagues believe that they are above reproach. Heck, even with the new changes regarding hack boxes and Adrenaline taking affect already on the consoles do you honestly think that the rules will change?

I find HB very effective in improving teamwork in games. if you constantly ‘PAINT’ groups of enemies in choke point or flanking routes.
Not so many players are map and HUD aware, so even if you ‘spot’ an enemy, or activate a comms hack your teammates may still not target them in time.
They are much more likely too be aware quicker if theres a painted bunch of red ghosts coming their way.

As the OP class is ‘behind enemy lines’ mostly, the ability to constantly paint targets arriving at the objective really helps the guys defending the objective area to be aware of the next waves approach route.

Aren’t they just banning the EMP grenade, not the entire class, because they’re trying to help out offense?

Aren’t there no spies in competitive play because the class is so underpowered?

Nevermind, I don’t know anymore and frankly I don’t care anymore.

Of course not, there are hack objectives… so they got their spotlight in the show too… somewhat a small blemish spotlight, but still!!! Instead of letting them what they are supposed to be, disruptors, lets reduce that to a guy and a hack box. Homing beacon is a BASIC ability for the ops, its a scouting ability. *the crowd cowers in fear " Oh noes!! dont paint me for 6 seconds it wall-hacks me… (!!!111) * Cmon lol, does anybody has heard of a game won solely because the team ops was HBing? If the answer is yes, tell me the secret so i can shift the balance on my team unfairly…

Why not prohibiting disguises while on defense instead? Because, by looking at a player, he appears on the radar as long as he is in your field of vison… like the comms hack a little but that can be sustained ( Uber warning ) or HB but without the wall-hack red outine that wont even let you see clearly true walls a la superman.

Are the hack turret or other basic abilities are removed, like caltrops or Stiky? Those 3 deals damage without the ops doing anything actively , omg…? Only the engie can do this, along with the ops. Thats munchkining of course… as much as disabling the Bot with an EMP… for maybe 4 secs, largely not enough to remove its health completely. I guess its fine at least having the control turret… ah bummer thats true turret hacking is so powerful, lets not add the " For once my turret did significant damage" to the game, it will create total lockdowns. Well , there is the cortex bomb, but to think of it, its no fair using the respawn time to your advantage. You could throw yourself on a patrol or anything and blam !

Well now that im left with disguises, that we banned for it’s similarities with the other banned scouting abilities. What option would be left,… hum, well… i guess heavy body and MGs will raise survivability a bit. But what is raised as high in that way to compete is boreness maybe. Viva pub play :stroggbanana:
