No seriously. It’s a question that was just bothering me since too long : in what situation would you just pick Kira over Stoker or Skyhammer ? Or Arty ? Yet I’m sure there’s a point aout using her that I just didn’t though about. I just can’t find myself a legit answer so if a big Kira player or a good competitive player can anwser me, it would be pretty nice. I feel like that question will prevent me from sleeping tonight.
What's the point about picking Kira over another fire support ?
More speed than any other fire support, has a powerful damage power, is more likely to actually kill someone with their laser, the laser has good duration, but most importantly “personal preference”.
in specific map areas lazor can rule and often score multikills
it denies plant/defuse unconditionally
Still yet to find a use for her over arty/sky/stoker, she has less health and arty already has access to her weapon set, and she has an ability that requires you to stand out in the open to use not fun imo xD. unless im missing something of course if so please learn me xD.
You can call the Laser from across the whole map and even control where it goes. I admit that it isn’t as good as arty or skyhammer in destroying the EV, but way better in killing mercs. If you place the laser right and learn to control it you can get at least 3 kills every time you use it. Even when you don’t see the enemie, because they are behind a wall, you can still call the laser in front of it and send it right over. On top of that it’s cooldown is only 35 seconds.
Ecspecially on maps like trainyard, Overground and Chapel you can wipe the whole enemy team with just one laser.
TLDR: Arty and Skyhammer are good against the EV but Kira is just awesome at killing players.
She got nerfed recendly but she is still really strong if you learn to control the laser well.
None since Dreiss and burst rifle nerfs :c but she was my favorite before that. Speed+powerful long range rifles, lots of hit and run potential. Laser allows for whole team wipes with some creative use.
Denying access to defuse a plant is the biggest one, imo. Unlike the Molotov there is no counter so the enemy is just forced to wait 12 seconds until the laser runs out.
Also, for me, she’s pretty fun to play as.
its all about positioning and not controlling the lazor constantly. You have to tap-mark distant locations and control lazor in this way, allowing you to shoot in the meantime. You only want to control it when the enemy start’s dodging, but usually spamming the lazor in different directions erratically will get you the kills.
I main Kira and for me its the speed combined with the ammo station and laser.
I like to be able to help the team so the ammo station is really nice (someone has to cover for all the slacking Skyhammers) (its also good for offensive use too, but Stoker should be able to put this to better use).
I like the laser because it feels rewarding when used right and I think it takes more thought and effort then just chucking out a beacon. You get to see the map in a different way and find points that you can use to guide and maneuver the laser well in areas that you can’t see while you keep them distracted from the beam of fiery love that approaches them.
The speed is nice for, well just moving about and not being stuck in the one area. But its also nice to give you a chance in close combat. This lets you dance up close and have a chance (offsetting the low hp), with the latest burst rifle changes I find this got abit harder to pull off as they are less forgiving.
tl:dr personal play style preference really (also I don’t play comp and I’m the type that would stop shooting and dance with the enemy if they didn’t attack me :>).

I didn’t though about this. I need to try it.
Her play style is unique because she is a fragile speedster/glass cannon with access to rifles. None of the other mercs have that unique playstyle. Compared to Arty, she does better in close quarters because she’s much harder to hit (well, If you know how to dodge and land your shots at the same time).
Other than that, I find her laser more fun to use because of how you rely on situational awareness in order to efficiently score kills compared to the other fire supports whose offensive abilities are more of fire and forget.
She is the fire support equivalent of sparks – fast, fragile, and effective at longer ranges. If you are used to one, the other feels pretty good.
Didn’t the Stoker and Arty have scoped ARs?[/quote]
The other fire supports have similar weapons, but they are tougher and slower. Kira’s squishyness and speed give her a more sparks-like feel.
Kira’s not a medic that shoots revives all over the place, and her ability is merely an annoyance, so there’s no reason to treat her like a fire support version of Sparks. If she had a legit sniper rifle or a shotgun alongside her rifles then maybe her lower health pool and lack of indoor power could be justified.

The original question was “why would someone pick Kira”. I pick kira because she is squishy, fast, and effective at longer ranges. In practice, I feel like I am sufficiently effective with her, and turning her into another 120hp/400speed merc would completely change her feel. If you like tankier fire supports, go ahead and play arty/skyhammer/stoker. Kira doesn’t need changes.
