what's a good program for creating textures?

(xion) #1

I remember reading around here about a good free proggy to create textures. Anyone know of one? I have some nice jpegs, but i’d like to make sure they’re going to work as textures.

also, what’s a good size (both kb-wise and pixel-wise) for a basic wall texture?

thanks guys!

The Gimp ( www.gimp.org ) is a 100% free Photshop-a-like.

Textures sizes? It depends…as a guide, 512x512 for terrain & larger buildings, 256 x 256 for in-between. Just keep the dimensions to powers of 2 (they don’t need to be square tho’). Don’t worry about file sizes, stick to TGA files & they’ll compress quite nicely in the PK3-making stage. You can always rejig then if neccessary.
