What tone of Dirty Bomb do you like?

(YeOldeButtcheek) #1

In closed beta/alpha, dirty bomb had more of a serious tone rather than a charming silly tone.
What tone do you like the most?

DB would just be another derivative shooter if it had gone down the same direction it was on in the Alpha gameplay vids I’ve watched.

a calm tone would be nice to calm the brain after a hard with a lot of explosion match

It’s nice. If going back to serious tone meant I would lose Bushwacker’s quotes, I’d be sad. His quotes are, like, the reason I play XD

(Cuck) #5

good calm lobby music would be nice

The silliness makes the game unique. Bushwhacker, Phantom, Redeye, Fragger, etc just wouldn’t be the same if they didn’t have all of the quotes they did.

Dirty Bomb’s original tone was better. It’s fits the story line better. Nothing is silly or charming about dirty bomb’s being set off in london.

In the aftermath of a mysterious radiological attack on London, intense battles rage in the city’s streets. Teams of mercenaries, some reputable and some not, fight to extract or destroy the secrets left behind. But the real goals remain unclear.

It would have been better with a more dark mystery kind of theme where players would need to look at the maps and listen to character’s dialogue to uncover the truth behind the C.D.A’s and Jackals’ intentions.

Which Splash damage did with that Aimee event.

I’ve seen users make the argument that keeping the alpha serious tone would be making Dirty bomb no different then any other F2P shooter and the same and that’s obviously not true.

Tone…I thought about something completely different. You mean tune? Like the menu theme?

(BananaSlug) #9

noo, when i first time played fragger i was laughing soo hard  i dont think the game should become serious, i like the way it is now

it still sometimes makes me laugh, like yesterday using arty he said something funny( dont remember :/)

Serious tones don’t work well for multiplayer games… keeping the tone light and fun will keep the game light and fun. Seriousness comes from competitive game play. No need to make the tone of the game dark.

Character personality and cheesy quotes makes me easier to relate to them, as a player.

Most of the protagonists in FPS genre are faceless mutes. With all brown and grey and realistic color filters.

Boring generic FPS theme? No thanks.

Less serious tone offers much more room for dialogue, even a little wacky one at times. It also doesn’t exclude more serious stuff (like Aimee’s backstory) to happen separately “in background” so to speak, unlike more serious tone pretty much looking extremely weird with silly elements mixed in.

Besides, who can draw realistically serious face in-game on a character that delivers lethally explosive pizza-risbees in the midst of enemy tent’n’marshmallow party resulting in nuke-tastic, yet selfdestructive results?

(Brain_of_Britain) #13

I don’t really mind what the tone is however a lighter atmosphere around a shooter can never hurt IMO because it avoids the experienced players just hating on noobs because the whole atmosphere surrounding the game is light and easy despite it still being a fast paced, competitive shooter (despite at the point of this post ranked/competitive being disabled, the irony is not lost on me).

(frolicsomeCrane) #14

I think “serious” is the wrong word for it. I think the word you’re looking for is “gritty”.

(Amerika) #15

DB really needs to work it’s glutes a bit more. Getting a bit flabby back there.

(Press E) #16

I voted silly, but honestly it’s the combination of all three choices that make this game worth it. I don’t want something as silly as TF2 or whatnot, but I still enjoy humour.

(inscrutableShow) #17

I agree with @STARRYSOCK. I feel like the mix between kinda gritty, kinda completely hilarious gives DB a unique flavor that isn’t to be found in many other places. While old classics like TF2 and newer games like Battleborn kinda capture the humour/grit combo, the flying through the air killing people gameplay style is another thing that makes this game so great.

TL;DR:

It’s fine like it is.

(Sorotia) #18

Tone doesn’t really matter to me much as long as I enjoy the gameplay.

(Xyfurion) #19

To be honest, this is what separates Dirty Bomb from other FPS games. It is silly and semi-cartoony which suits is extremely well. I don’t want to see it changed.
