What To Play While We Wait

I’m gonna play Hungry hungry hippos until Brink is released

(Raga) #22

ETQW, Quake Live.

The best czech game ever.
Heh, wow. Didn’t know anyone else played that. I love the squad level tactical games like H&D, Commandos, Dragon Age (/baldur’s gate), and Alien Swarm on insane+. Just finished Freedom Force last week; very good and very cheap game.
And EA were are any better?

If you’re sick of crappy PC ports stop buying them. Spend your cash supporting developers who support the PC fully. Buy and play L4D2! It’s down to $20 FFS! Buy indie titles and show the startup developers that PC gamers do buy games and that there is a market there for them, that they don’t need to constrain their designs to consoles just to make a buck or do dumb ***** like p2p online, no server distrib and using backward DRM.

To answer the OP. I’ll be playing Minecraft, L4D2 and the massive back catalogue of games I have on Steam.
That was kind of amusing actually. I support many titles, including L4D2. My boycott of Black Ops is more based on the dev’s and Activision doing a monopoly thing. EA have many different TGSP’s that you can select to do business with, and buy a server from. My biggest issue is them telling me I have to buy a server from GameServers if I want a semi dedicated server. The fact I am supporting Brink and Heroes of Stalingrad etc, shows I do support the dev’s and the idie’s.

BTW you DO realize that Steam is a “backwards DRM”, and your massive catalog of games with Steam shows you support the DRM. Personally I hate Steam and being forced to use it. I do not like VAC as an anti cheat. Seems that is the road SD is taking as well. :oppressor:

(0xT1) #25

Steam is DRM without a doubt, the difference is Steam adds value instead of subtracting.

(BioSnark) #26

Since this is going to steam again I’ll just remind u that ur all just fighting on the deck of the titanic because, aswe learned a couple days ago, “hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC anymore.”

Ill most likely get Black Ops, as ive gotten all COD’s and enjoyed them all, however since COD4 they keep adding what I like to call Doom Days weapons for new players who cant shoot, and the game keeps getting more and more chaotic like the old Doom and Unreal Tournament days. Which was fine for those games, but war games have been more skill based until the past few years. ET was the first war game i really enjoyed lol.

Anyways im not expecting much from Black Ops but the same old same old, which doesnt mean it’ll be bad, but still. Then they add the RC car which looks cool but i know will piss me off before I really ever have a chance to be amused by it. :o

(signofzeta) #28

Ok ok, this one is bad.

You know what I am going to play before Brink comes out?

I am gong to play with myself.

In all seriousness though, I don’t think I will be buying Brink at release, as it didn’t give me this feeling that I wanted the game so badly, unlike ETQW.

Until the game comes out, and I see actual gameplay videos from people who already bought the game and are playing the game, and it gives me the “I want this game” feeling, then I will buy it.

(SockDog) #29

You may be taking this a little personally. I don’t pretend to know you or your buying habits. I was just responding to your post by saying that supporting devs who support the PC is better than selectively boycotting Activision today and EA tomorrow but ultimately putting money in either’s pocket. I feel their business plans extend further than many gamer’s memories or commitment.

You’ll note you quoted the “backwards” part, that’s really where I differentiate between DRM that works for publishers/developers while having little impact on the end customer (Steam) and the DRM which makes you jump through hoops and ultimately download a crack just to play your games (Limited activations, Ubisoft online DRM etc).

We can probably skip the whole Steam sucks part we’re entitled to our opinions and that’s yours.

And to remain on topic just a little bit. Having bought Monkey Island 2 this weekend I’m hoping to finish of the first one and get through the second before Brink comes out. With that If I can Hijack a little. Maybe we can list the games we hope to play and finish while waiting for Brink, I’m sure there are quite a few skeleton’s in our closets.

Haha wow that is just complete BS, I have a PS3, but I know plenty of people that play FPS’s on PC. PC is much more fun and responsive. Hopefully by this time next week I’ll have enough moolah to buy one :).

(Reanimator) #31

Oh for those who haven’t tried it, I recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, or Call of Pripyat. SoC is pretty much my favorite game ever.

Seriously, what’s wrong with people? Whining about how they are getting screwed and then going ahead and buying the crap they are handed virtually guaranteeing they’re gonna get screwed again the next time. PC players buying Activision games are not only digging their own graves, they are digging mass graves for all of us.

(Nail) #33

think I’ll play Osmos

I highly think they just want to use a keyboard and mouse on a call of duty game, and they don’t care about anything else, be it a dumbed down console port or not.

(Feelgood) #35

I agree. After getting reamed by that abominable game Wolfenstein 2009, I’m more skeptical then ever. I did not purchase MW2, nor do I plan to. I also do not plan to purchase Black Ops. What Activision is doing now, irritates me to no end.

For the most part, I like alot of what I see with Brink, and will definitely be supporting this game. A next favorite of mine is going to be RO2: Heroes of Stalingrad. Its WW2, and only real downside is that is only appeals to a niche market, because of the level of realism in the game. Sounds are real, recoil VERY real, you HAVE to play as a team to win, many different game modes, destructible buildings (similar to BC2), 100% PC game, and best of all 64 players on the hugest maps you have ever battled on.

You guys might want to check it out, if you have never heard of it. But be warned, as I said it is a very realistic game, not for the faint of heart. There are no crosshairs on your screen, you have to aim the gun. Shooting from the hip is almost guaranteed miss, youll want to get fast at switching to iron sights. The dismemberment is pretty damned cool too. If youre hit it will effect how you play. Like if youre shot in the leg, you cant move very fast. Your gun can be shot out of your hard. If youre mortally wounded, your screen slowly blacks out as you die. This is kind of like last stand, as youre fading out you have a few secs to get revenge on the guy that shot you. However a shot like in the head or heart is instant death. There is lean and prone, and you can shoot around a corner using lean. You can even reach over an obstacle and do a blind fire! Game really has alot going for it.

i’ll race thru metal slug and the good ol’ lucas arts adventures, been saving these for some years now, so i’ll have blast playing thru these again.

oh, and definitely gabriel knight, just found it as abandon ware recently.

… a brink beta /demo however is more than welcome.

(Kinjal) #37

I start play ET again, 3vs3 5vs5. ETQW have a lot of guys using wallhack, sad but true.

(.Chris.) #38

Since when?

(Kinjal) #39

dunno, i think since etqw gone from clanbase, since were is no referee or sort of. Anyway who cares, its just my opinion, i dont have any proof, and even if i have it, the etqwpro is allmost dead, so if they like play cheat vs cheat , why stop them, they pay 10$ every month for cheats.

(.Chris.) #40

Yet you play ET…
