no dessert for you. Eat your potatoes.
Hey! Traverse down to lines 1083-1110 and you will see a huge block of cvars that all begin with TEXTUREGROUP. These cvars control the textures of the game.
For weapon models it should be pretty obvious; change TEXTUREGROUP_Weapon, TEXTUREGROUP_WeaponNormalMap, and TEXTUREGROUP_WeaponSpecular all to MinLODSize=256,MaxLODSize=1024
For character models, you will see 3 lines: TEXTUREGROUP_Character, TEXTUREGROUP_CharacterNormalMap, and TEXTUREGROUP_CharacterSpecular. Chang the minLODSize of all of these to 256 and the maxLODSize to 1024 if you want the character models to look very nice as well.
I have found that having the textures of these set too high makes me lag when I look at people (probably placebo), so I just made the minLODSize=32 and the maxLODSize=64 – this is the lowest you can go without breaking the ini and making models look all colorfully pixelated.
Personally, I have everything in that TEXTUREGROUP block set to a minLODSize of 32 and a maxLODSize of 64. This change really buffs performance and clarity, without breaking the game of course.
Here’s my latest ini, if anyone was curious. http://pastebin.com/77iNqe5P You will have to change the resX and resY of course; this ini doesn’t break the game and make it look like legos like my previous ones.
I’ve been playing around with this before and when I increased the MaxLOD to something above 64 (I think), all the textures turned black. Any idea why that is?

Not sure, but make sure that the minLODSize is 32.

Thanks. It still didn’t work for me, but with your newest config it’s working fine (up to 1024 for characters and weapons, which seems to be the maximum).

that is because of the texture streaming settings.
If you set if off in a clean/new cfg, everything just goes black xD

Not in my experience. I’ve had it go black at some point though and couldn’t figure out why, so I did it again. But that was after I messed with it a bit more. Stock config + no texture streaming works fine.

hm that’s really wierd now, i was 100% sure on this because i tried it multiple times.
probably related to some light settings then. I tried it with the low default cfg

Same here though. Did you follow that Randomguy7 tutorial? Perhaps forgetting or changing one setting can cause the issue. I also did not set my config to read only when I did this. I think the game changes some settings again, but texture streaming still stays off (I can tell this easily because otherwise I get rather slow texture build up whenever I switch weapons, don’t know if it’s that slow with everybody else).
kinda unrelated, but I figured I might just ask here
anyone knows which graphics setting (not necessarily cfg) takes care of the visual effect of Auras healing station? cause I’ve changed some things around in the video settings and on some settings I get the visual effect and on others I don’t, but I’m not really sure which option is responsible for it
