I really do like the phantom class, never tried him beside using commands alone and i like him but everyone is saying that he is crap, bad, worst merc in the game atm, idk, the other classes im not so sure about. So could someone give me a solid idea on which merc should i get? i have 30k credits atm and heading for 50k if there is a good merc someone mentions to me here.
What merc should i get first?
They’re all good, even Phantom, it depends on how you would like to play the game. Do you prefer support, like healing, giving supplies, doing objectives? Or do you like to kill players, if it’s the latter then how do you like it? Being in the fight, being far away, using explosives, etc. There are many factors to choosing a merc, but just because people say one is crap doesn’t mean it actually is. I’ve seen plenty of phantoms who are extremely dangerous, they’ve likely had a lot of experience though which is what separates them from new users.
You should wait until you reach 50,000 credits before deciding, just so you don’t settle for one of the 30k mercs(Not saying they are bad, simply that you should broaden your horizon with options).
Also remember that it’s not the end of the world if you buy a merc you don’t like, once you’ve played the game enough you start to get a surplus of credits you don’t really know what to do with. Hope this has been helpful in your search.
Sawbones. Great Loadout and Primary, with the ability to heal yourself on the move unlike other medics. Of course you heal / revive other team mates.
Loadout - CR73 Companion Operative (Medic orientated).
Loadout - CR42 Original Operative (More fragging orientated).
Other Merc I’d consider is Fragger. All round decent Merc and high HP. Two decent primary weapons and his ability is great.
Loadout: M62 Power Rifleman
You can also check out my following thread.
Even though it does not include Phantom yet, there is already a good number of mercs you can read about.
I hope it helps! Happy reading.
@Kirays Btw i can help you with info on the mercs if u wanna dude.
And to be honest dude don’t listen to what people say about Phantom because if you’re a good player and you learn when to use the cloak and how you can use it you can play in different playstyles which r very fun. 1st playstyle is the rush 1 in which u rush at you’r enemy with the cloak on and you use it as a shield so u can take more bullets before you line up you’r shot and start shooting. You can also use the cloak to escape if you’re getting chase. You just activate it and again it works as a shield. 2nd playstyle that i know is sneaking around flanking you’r enemy lining up you’r shot and landing some head shots. If you’re gonna go melee only which i don’t recommend then take you’r targets 1 at a time don’t get greedy and keep them close to you.
@Kirays Well i sent u a private msg on all the info u needed on Phantom u can use what ever u like and enjoy.
Phantom is okay, but he can be better without being overpowered.
My suggestion is Nader. She’s a bit hard at the beginning, but pays off once you learn how to aim the launcher and get very close to the enemy, for both martyrdom and easy headshots.
Tip with Nader: Jump + Sprint for furthest made trajectories.
Id say Nader, it takes a while to get used to her and fully master her but it pays of, or you can also get bushwhacker I personally think bushwhacker is great, skyhammer is also a good merc all round, either you can try get better loadouts for skyhammer or Get Nader or Bushwhacker. Thats what I suggest.
if you want to support the devs you could get the ultimate starter pack.
gives you most of the mercs mentioned here.
Fragger, Sawbonez, and Proxy are the quintessential starter pack of beginner-friendly, high skill ceiling Mercs who between them can cover everything a player is expected to do in Dirty Bomb.
Some people swear by Fletcher in place of Proxy. I didn’t enjoy Fletcher when I played him on rotation, but maybe stickies are more up your alley than mines. I’m a Bushwhacker guy myself.
There’s also the Sparks mains. She’s useful, but isn’t as beginner friendly or as useful in a direct firefight. Sawbonez is who you want behind you in a scrap.
100% Proxy.
There are multiple reasons for this.
As previously stated in this very thread, she has a massive skill ceiling, but she also teaches you the quintessential mechanics and strategies of the game.
Firstly, she encourages and provides rewards for playing the objective. She does this super quickly with the combination of her movement speed and her planting speed she can make for some insane planting times.
Secondly, her mines are very welcoming to new and old players. Since they are fire and forget and in the average Level 7 server will catch nearly everyone off guard, her ability allows new players to pick up easy objective defines points with little to no effort. In the same stroke, their cooldown is longer than Fletchers stickies and as such teaches you to manage your resources better than just spam q and e (I mean no offence to Fletcher, he is a great Engineer and I believe he is a great higher skill level merc, but not new player material). Not to mention they pack a powerful punch that can be detonated early by way of a bullet, thus allowing new players to find new strategies for themselves.
Thirdly, all of her weapons have a high damage output and she has options for those with less accuracy and patience than shotgun and blishlok users. She has the Remburg for high damage output at close range and the Hochfir for high damage output and high fire rate at medium to medium short.
Lastly, she is only 30k. This means you get access to an Engineer earlier on and a solid, welcoming one at that.
If you wanna get into this game, you really have to go through the Proxy phase first in order to get the most out of it.
