What does standard rank mean? Does everyone get Gold 5? In which case what’s the point of the placement matches? Or is Gold 5 simply the highest you can get from the placement matches? If so I think Gold 5 is fine, it’s not like people who get there after placement matches don’t belong there (or higher), doesn’t take much to be Gold 5 now does it.

I played one competitive game waaaaaaay back when. @N8o was going to carry me to Elite, but our stack left before we even got a single game. :lol:

I’m 99% sure that everyone starts at Gold 5 and the “unranked” title merely hides that since everyone seems to get placed at best on Gold 4 and at worst on Silver 2. If we had people starting out at Silver they’d take longer to start getting matched against Cobalts, and the Bronze ranks might actually have some use.

That doesn’t make any sense, if they’re just grinding their way to cobalt (because skill wise they are cobalt), they obviously don’t belong in silver. MM just need to put people in the rank that they actually are after the placement matches. If it did that, we’d be using the full range of ranks.

Considering he is a Cobalt player, I have to assume he understands how the rank system works.
What he is saying (if I can read correctly) is that he wants to set the baseline for “average” lower, say Silver 4-2, and have a larger gap between people so the ranks are more accurate in determining skill level.

Yep, that’s pretty much it. I mean, I’m sure no one could possibly make it to Bronze right now even if they tried, and Gold ranks are too damn close to Cobalt.

We’ll see, I’m gonna do my best and smurf my way to Bronze when I get the time, see if it’s even possible.
Haven’t managed to find a MM match since October, despite having queue’d several times for 15-20 mins at peak NA and EU times.
Hopefully once season 1 goes live more people will be playing and it will be easier to find a match.
