What is the safest trade up for cobalt?

Soo i just achived a point in my dirty bomb gamimg experience , i can trade up to caobalt , i really dont want to be disapointed , soo i ask , what is the merc that i can safely get a decent loadout , i wanted sawbonez since i love ,have no good cards for him , all other mercs i have decent cards for , but sawbonez is risky , i hate smg 9 and blish ,need crotzi :frowning:

Open notepad, go through each merc, and count the number of loadouts that you would be happy with. Pick the merc with the most acceptable loadouts.

There isn’t a general answer here. I’d be happy with both sm72 and cr73 on sawbones, but you clearly disagree. On the flip side, I would only really be happy with fragger m62, but you might very well think that any of the m4 or k121 loadouts are usable. I’d suggest not going for sparks, but the rest is up to you.

If you hate smg 9 and blishlok, then don’t trade-up for sawbonez. 2/3 chances to get disappointed. As Retief said, the possible way is to look for the merc where you feel there’s the highest number of acceptable loadouts or weapons for you. If you have 2 acceptable loadouts for a merc, there’s HUGE chances you won’t get them on a single trade-up, keep this in mind.

Mercs on which I consider loadouts does not make much difference : Phoenix, Nader, both with 6 ok loadouts and to a lesser extent Vassili, depending if you like pdp and revolvers. Every merc with shotgun choices are directly out I suppose. But proxy and Aura could count into this if you like shotguns for pub games.

Mercs I was considering for Cobalt trade up (= mercs I play 90% of the time):

  • Arty
  • Bushwhacker
  • Fletcher
  • Fragger
  • Kira
  • Nader
  • Phoenix
  • Sawbonez
  • Stoker

Everyone except Nader and Phoenix have at least 1 primary that I don’t like - either in general, or just on the specific merc, like BR16 on Fragger. Then I factored in loadouts. The worst is Sawbonez, he has 2 best by far, 1 mediocre (the remaining one with Get Up) and the rest is trash. Again it turned out that I can live with any Nader loadout.

So I didn’t need any goats for a ritual sacrifice, and did the trade up for Nader feeling calm. Got CR83, which was very fitting as it is the loadout that I used while making baby steps in DB :slight_smile:

Phoenix. Do him or wait until SD actually balances the loadouts.

Pretty much any Phoenix loadout is functional.
