What Is It About Bridge's Generator That Makes Defenders Never Want to Hold It?

(LifeupOmega) #1

Seriously. Every game. It’s me and MAYBE one other person holding the generator, everyone else is on the other side of the road near the stairway, doing nothing, and helping nobody. Why are people so adamant about ignoring this crucial objective after it has been constructed? It’s even in an annoying as hell place to push, you have to go indoors, to a small room, where defenders have the high ground and can still airstrike and bombard you outside before the push - it’s perfect to camp in.

Am I missing something? Does sitting by this generator have some adverse affect like “learning to play the game’s objectives”? Hell I’m not even sure if there’s a giant yellow symbol telling them to defend it, maybe that’s why they don’t, which is surprising, how can you not realise that generator = barricade = holding the EV in place = we should hold the damn thing for as long as possible? Would making it an actual key objective be enough to make these players suddenly care about it instead of dying somewhere far away and letting the attackers roll on through?

/rant, I’ve played too much Bridge today.

I hear you - holding the room with the generator can be a real PITA if you are a single engineer and your whole team is out there offensively defending and failing at it, especially when most attacking players don’t even know that the generator can be damaged by explosives and try to storm the room instead. At least give me a health station to keep me company.

(BananaSlug) #3

maybe it should be considered as main objective, same goes for siting in room with drugs…

(kopyright) #4

@BananaSlug Judging from some of the chat messages plenty of players seem to consider sitting in a room with drugs their main objective.

Defenders usually hold both sides to varying levels of effectiveness. I know I’ve seen some pretty impregnable defenses in that room, and have had to hold the fort down singlehandedly or with a token allotment of pubs before. It seems to just depend on which pub is playing.

I suppose since Attackers focus generator, pubs like camping the other side to set up crossfire and avoid actually getting shot at.

I still just sit back on Attacker left side and shoot the generator until it dies (RIP my accuracy stats) now anyways.

The main reason is because it’s straightforward to just run out of spawn into the opposite building on the right of the EV path. Usually more than half of the team just runs straight there because it’s the easiest and shortest path to get back to pew-pewing enemies. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have someone there to have a crossfire, but when it’s 3 people there and the usual 2 snipers (because pubs) on the balcony then it’s only you and maybe someone else in the generator room.

The discussion is pretty moot if attackers know that you can shoot/bomb the generator, but that is arcane knowledge of the rarest sort.

I’m similarly annoyed on attacking on first stage of Trainyard your teammates keep fighting pointless battles for the MG room instead of closing the gate and protecting the plant from there. From my experience it’s always a better strategy in pubs.

In my experience, defenders love that room. Getting them out is a massive headache. That room has been the cause of some of the most frustrating matches I’ve ever played.

Scrubs should have a special room just for them. That room is it.

I don´t get why people bother with planting the bomb, why not destroy it from the outside with explosives, its way easier

Because they don’t know it. I sure hope that the upcoming tutorial covers that.

Most players don’t know. Whenever I see we have Naders on the team I do tell them, it’s a 50/50 split on whether or not they’ll listen though.

Personally I just spam the hell out of the generator from outside with any kind of explosives I have at my disposal. I don’t think I’ve planted on that generator in a good few months of playing.

But I think the reason that your team doesn’t defend is just because they’re idiots who don’t seem to notice how important the side objective really is. In most maps the side objective is a marginal victory and doesn’t actually help considerably, so lots of people ignore them (for good reason). Maybe the reason people don’t care about this one on Bridge (which IS highly important) is because they just see it as another pointless side objective?

I usually try playing nader in Bridge. Just so I can blow that room up. :stuck_out_tongue:

(hoyes) #14

All the times I have played on bridge that is not in a min 10(though I try to get into min 10/20s as much as possible) I am always the one ending up repairing the generator on defense, even if I’m playing Thunder and the resr of the team is playing proxy. It just sucks. No one bothers or realises that the room needs to be defended properly, but rather defend the alleyway which is easily got through with the help of a fragger, stoker or nader.

I genuinely think that this needs to be considered a primary objective, and have various audio and visual queues that tell players to defend it with their life.

That and the concept of advanced spawn on Terminal…Tired of defenders or attackers ignoring it.

nice necro, still relevant though.
