What if Proxy's mines had a slow down effect instead?

(TheStrangerous) #1

Now I know some of you will be accusing me, on where did I get that idea from. But let’s not talk about that, K?

Proxy mines are the biggest annoyance, which has been expressed throughout the community, ever since she was available.

But what if, her mines had an EMP/conc explosive effect of slowing down enemies (and maybe drain their health a bit?), instead of instantly killing them or taking away huge chunk of health?

That way, the victim could still fight back, only with slower movement.

I don’t see how Proxy would profit from players being able to fight back without a health buff on herself.

in exchange for 6 Mines in the pocket i wouldnt mind.
i ll just put 3 for each area bigger explosion of small damage.

but this is probably bad idea since her mine considered one of the most potent stopping power in the game.

making people walk away from a mine would have been a danger to proxy and other teammate.

Removing proxy’s ability to kill tougher mercs would make her pretty underwhelming. Also, one would have to constantly be near their mines so they can finish off whoever they just stunned. I don’t think this is a good idea.

You know her mines are hardly the reason she’s not generally played in ranked. Despite Bushwhacker probably being in the worst place for the Engineers (not counting Turtle not being in the game atm) there’s a reason he’d be picked over her if someone wasn’t going to use Fletcher.

You’re just going to have to deal with her mines, she’d be one hundred percent worthless in pretty much any capacity if she lost the lethality of her mines.

In a game with this much focus on movement and fast pace, I’d hate to see more items that take away the ability to move.
The conc nade is horrible enough as it is, please no more removal of mobility :’(

Mines are fine as long as players can hear them.

Too many important sounds getting lost in the audio mix currently.

What @pumpkinmeerkat said basically. Surprisingly many things that feel wrong in the game stem from horrendous issues with the sound engine. Flanking, running enemy footsteps inaudible, mines being completely suffocated and even outright sound nonexisting during gunfights, some sounds travelling unnecessary long distances, sounds travelling ridiculous distances and through thick walls vertically etc.

How I remember it, a while back early around Open Beta launch Blishlok was considered the absolute crappiest excuse of a smg, with even secondary smgs like Empire outperforming it and being more wanted pick. Few updates later its stats were not touched at all, but simply its firing sounds were changed and properly timed to fit its actual fire rate (it was way off earlier) suddenly the gun started seeing noticeable changes towards much better performance across the board.

Long story shorter sounds can play a massive role in issues that at first glance seems like math/mechanical related. I would hope SD doesnt touch gun and ability balance too much before getting their sounds properly in place.

I think that Proxy and Fletcher are long overdue for a rework.

Both are too offensive for Engineers. Proxy is terrible at range. Fletcher is disgusting.

I think that their abilities need to be reworked or given to characters with different weapons. A landmine (that can’t be used as a grenade) would be more sensible with a character that has better weaponry, like a sniper. Fletcher seems more suitable as an agent with buffed health, as he would not need sticky bombs to be good at range anymore, thus allowing a nerf to make them proper defensive tools.

Yes, getting rid of Fletcher’s shogtuns for magnum secondaries could ironically make him better. That’s how valuable shotguns are on engineers. You can’t engage at medium range with them, which is extremely meaningful because even a competent Blishlock player (all headshots) can shred 110-140 HP characters in 0.6 seconds, while landing a second shot on a shotgun takes 0.63 seconds at best.

In order for a glass cannon shotgun engineer to be both useful and fair, that engineer basically needs abilities that buy 10 seconds of time per use (like Rhino), and can’t be used in an offensive manner. Or, the engineer needs to become a giant counterspell to the biggest threats to a defensive formation: explosives.

I mean otherwise, we just get a big fat load of ehh when trying to make characters that have their combat abilities be focused on defense, and have to put up with using a shotgun.

i agree.
proxy with a light sniper rifle or a scoped weapon would fit better than a shotgun.

but thats not the case, the case is proxy is one of the only good flanker in pubs. Has good firepower and has the speed. Flanker dont need health, they need speed.
