What games are you guys playing?

(Chrysus) #1

Edit: Err, title should be “What game are you guys playing?”

To those of you that are defending Brink and saying that people don’t like it because it’s not COD and people don’t know how to play as a team - where are you getting the impression that people don’t like the game because they are having trouble accomplishing team based objectives?

This game-play is insanely buggy. The net code is awful and laggy and you cannot connect to your friends. The menus are awful. The only good part of this game are all the awesome ideas they told us about that made so many of us pre-order the game.

I love playing team based combat. I just wish this game would let me do so.

How is it stopping you exactly?

Having a level 20 and 15 already, I have come across few bugs. VERY FEW. As a matter of fact the only true BUG is getting timed out on servers when they’re clearly working, which just leads to netcode issues. (most people don’t really understand what this means, glitchy != buggy.)

As far as the net code, yes, this requires and immediate fix.

There isn’t a meaningful difference between glitch and bug in the context I used. Both refer to unintended effects in a program that should be fixed.

Try coding just one time. Tell me there is no huge difference between a glitch and a bug.

Glitches happen once or twice.
Bugs happen every time you try to repeat what you did.

Hey… keep thinking you’re the next Einstein of coding though, kid.

The netcode isnt buggy, it just requires folks to know how to open ports and use their firewalls correctly. Since the majority of computer users these days can barely turn a pc on much less know how to forward ports I can understand the frustration.

Make sure you set the ports up correctly and forward them to your box.
Make sure you add brink as public and private in your windows firewall settings or disable it completely.
Do the same with any and all personal security software.

Or find a guy like me to help you out via team viewer

This is of course assuming you are talking about the pc version.

Just because a glitch isn’t PREDICTABLY repeatable, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen often and that it is an issue that can and should be addressed.

But you’re right, it does take an “Einstein of coding” to look up glitch in the dictionary

“Computers . any error, malfunction, or problem.”

24 hours in and fan boys are turning this into the worst community in gaming.

I think you mean 24 hours in and troll ****heads like you won’t get off the forums?

Digging the 4 player challenges but damn i wish they switch it up from time to time…instead of doing the same map over and over…i really hope the DLC is something amazing.

I know how to forward ports on my router, and I’ve tried it. It doesn’t work for everyone. Furthermore, surely you don’t think it’s reasonable to force gamers to tweak their routers to play the game properly. How do other games manage to easily connect to friends and servers and not lag like crazy without having to do anything?

(Chrysus) #11

Yes, you are right. Bringing up legitimate concerns about a game that I was excited about and paid money for makes me a ****head.

No game is perfect out the gates, but this game isn’t even adequate. This game will probably be great in 6 months, but it’s in poor form and ultimately a bad business plan to force people to pay to beta test your game.

(indirect) #12

Legitimate concerns that you got from watching someone live stream?

Sure thing guy.

LOL. I logged about 7-8 hours today. That’s not enough to see and do everything, but plenty enough to make a decision about the game’s quality. You are just making random things up, yet I am the one trolling?

Can you mention what bugs specifically? General sweeping statements help no one at all, there’s constantly devs on here and they need to know exactly what’s wrong. Can you also limit to actual ‘bugs’ and not personal preference comments?

e.g.

A bug: Pressing and holding SMART, the grenade button and ADS all at the same time causes the game to freeze for 10 seconds
An opinion: I don’t like the colour or layout of the menus.

If SD don’t know about it, they can’t fix it.

(indirect) #15

Yeah I’m sure you did. Every time I buy a game I don’t like, I always spend 8 hours on it hating it even more!!

(linspatz) #16

The only real bug I’ve came across was the sound bug on that one map. I can’t even remember which map it is. And thats a bad thing, I’ve already played it 3 times now, and am always afraid I’m going to vote for it. There are a few design things I don’t enjoy but nothing limiting the amount of fun I have.

(Chrysus) #17

I’m not as simple as you are.

For me, it depends on the game. If it is a game that is clearly just bad, then sure, I’ll give up on it after an hour or two. If it is a game like Brink that shows great promise - some things work and other things are awful - I’ll spend more time with it before figuring out whether it is worth playing or not.

It’s really easier for you to believe that the majority of people playing and reviewing the game that hate it just didn’t give it a chance than consider the fact that the game might have serious flaws?
