What FOV and Why? Plus Ironsight FOV Scale
[li]When ironsighted, pain twitch speeds now scale with fov as per exact proportion that the twitch distance itself is adjusted

This peeked my interest about different FOV usage. I played ET at 90 and I was thinking I should go back to 90 on xT but there’s something about sniping at 100 to 120 FOV that feels right.

I know its all in my head but at 90 FOV I feel like I have better hit reg and 105 I feel like I can track better.

Is anyone going to change to FOV 120 just to use Ironsights more?

I snipe with 100 usually… I used to play et and etqw on 90
Dont know why Ive opted for 100 though, it just feels right.

any game i play i max out fov. i feel like im in a tunnel if i dont

Between 103 and 105.
used to play at 110 on wolf ET

90 on XT, 95 on ET, 100 on quake

Why 90 on XT ? Because there is a lot of mid/long range fights in this game and movements are pretty slow so you don’t need more than that.
Anyway there is not a better FOV than an other, it really depends on what you like/are used to. I tried a lots of FOV during my ET time 110, 105, 90 and was able to perform well with each one of them.

95-100. I usually like 90 FOV since I can see my crosshair more clearly, however in xT the game feels visually smoother at higher FOV. At lower FOV values the game feels like it’s skipping or lagging visually for me.

Ironsighting has it’s clear advantage- laser spread. If your not close to someone or they are behind cover, then simply ironsight and they will drop in seconds. FOV has never influenced my use of ironsights though, but rather just getting a feel for when they become more reliable for a given situation out of play experience.

I play most games, quake live included at 100. xT feels horrible to me at anything lower than 120.

Default, don’t see any reason to change it.

Our scoped/ironsights views are a fixed FoV, regardless of what hip-FoV you are using. A sniper scope will always go to 25 FoV if you’re using 90 or 110.

This fix means that scoped view-kick (from being hit) scales properly and isn’t as snappy or severe as it was before.

Can you please go a bit further into detail on flinch in xT?
When does it happen (hit zones)? All guns? Also in hipfire? etc

(prophett) #11

100-105 fov

(Ninjatomte) #12

113 usually but I’ve played with more and/or less depending on what the game allows

113 mostly because I think the number is cute

(Glottis-3D) #13

yes.
because 113 = 3, and 1-1+3 = 3
My FOV:
W:ET: 100-105
COD4: 80 and sometimes 90
CODBO1: 80
CODBO2: 80
CODGhost: 80
Extraction/Dirty Bomb: 80

Reason for 80 and not 100 in XT/DB:

Tracking players in this game is harder due to

 • higher movement speed (paired with too low bullet damage, makes it too hard)
 • default server-tick (low as in 20?, not high as in 100 in high quality CS servers)
 • low bullet damage (makes it frustrating to lose “kills” you “had” but lost.)
 • pretty high weapon kick
 • spread

If it was easier to track & kill people in XT/DB I would use FOV 100.

This is atleast my current thought about it.
I might try 80 I am having a hard time seeing people and their heads…
