my what?

your shader file…

Actually, this has happend to me from time to time. I belive it is a bug in radiant.

Try this

Step 1. Download a text editor that can open large text files (Search download.com or something)
Step 2. Open your .MAP file and go to line XXXX. This can typically be done on a windows machine by pressing CRTL+G
Step 3. Chances are this block won’t look like the ones above/below it. Note the brush number (NN) and copy the missing/incomplete line from the above brush.
Step 4. Save
Step 5. In Radiant goto brush number NN, delete it and redraw it.

Somehow the editor screwed up when writing the brush in text format.

Let me know if this works.

Thanks and good luck.

lol, i dont know what u just said, what do i exactly have to hunt for and all, im still a newbie and i dont know what alot of things r, but i have opened my map in a word document, is that what u mean?

(CrazedFan) #7

No. As I said, search download.com for a text editor that can open large files. Word does not keep line numbers intact because it is designed to write documents. Not code.

Please try the steps above. If after several attempts you just can’t get it, please post again. I am sure you’ll make progress if you try the above steps.

Im not having this or any other problem (atm), but by a “text editor which can open large files” and is used for coding do you mean Notepad?
Curious, would also help lock ness if he is not technically minded, as he may spend a while looking for this and then get told he already has something capable of this already on his computer. (If he is not technically minded he almost certainly has a Windows standard computer)

Lock Ness Monster, the editor (radiant) creates map-files, as you know. These map files are textfiles, that can be opened in a text editor. As CrazedFan said above.
Sometimes I use Notepad.
But this time you might want to try another editor, that I recommend: http://www.crimsoneditor.com/
This editor keeps track of the lines in the text and it will tell you where “line 7516” is.
This is what you do:
1 ) Copy your original map-file. As a backup, for safety reasons.
2 ) Let’s assume the copy is called copy_mymapname.map
3 ) Rename the file to: copy_mymapname.txt
4 ) Open it in the Crimson editor.
5 ) Now, do what CrazedFan said:
Go to line 7516. Have a look at the block of code there.
Note the brush number.
6 ) And here is my bald suggestion: Just delete the block of code for that brush! Toss the brush away! (Hopefullt it is a minor and insignificant brush.)
7 ) Save.
8 ) Rename copy_mymapname.txt to copy_mymapname.map
9 ) Open copy_mymapname.map
Hopefully you will be able to open the map. fingers crossed
The brush will be gone, but you can create a new one if you want to.
Why does this error occur? I have no idea. It just does sometimes.
:slight_smile:
Good luck!

PS I also have had this error message.
PSS You can use Crimson editor when you write your scripts, arena files, shader files or whatever for all you custom maps. I use it alot.

Hi again :slight_smile:
Above, I said “Just delete the block of code for that brush!”. But it does not have to be a brush. It can be a light or a model or something else.

If it looks like this:

7508 // entity 175
7509 {
7510 "light" "500"
7511 "origin" "-656 224 208"
7512 "classname" "light"
7513 "_color" "1.000000 0.601267 0.000000"
7514 }
7515 // entity 176
7516 {
7517 "classname" "misc_model"
7518 "origin" "656 -224 224"
7519 "model" "models/mapobjects/ge_models/goldeneye_bunker_choppergadget.md3"
7520 }
7521 // entity 177
7522 {
7523 "classname" "light"
7524 "origin" "656 -224 208"
7525 "light" "500"
7526 "_color" "1.000000 0.558099 0.000000"
7527 }

Then just asume that the problem lies within entity 176, because that is where line 7516 is.
Delete entity 176 (the entire block of code for that entity).
This is what it looks like afterwards:

7508 // entity 175
7509 {
7510 "light" "500"
7511 "origin" "-656 224 208"
7512 "classname" "light"
7513 "_color" "1.000000 0.601267 0.000000"
7514 }
7515 // entity 177
7516 {
7517 "classname" "light"
7518 "origin" "656 -224 208"
7519 "light" "500"
7520 "_color" "1.000000 0.558099 0.000000"
7521 }

You do not have to do anything more. (No need to rename entity 177 to 176!)
Just leave it as it is.
Save.
Follow steps 8 and 9 above.

It works for me. Don’t know if it is the correct thing to do, but it is functional.

lol, i got the map working again, thanks Loffy, just one thing odd, ok, i deleted the one brush causing the problems, buth when i opened my map, have of my monorail was gone, dont know what happened. I just brush 815, so y did all the others go with it?

Edit: i just did a look around, it did more then just delete my monorail, it deleted the train itself, the spline lines for it, all the spawn points, every single light i had in it,
all dymatiable objects, elevators, and working doors, i dont think that is suppose to happen, so how can i get it back?

(Loffy) #12

Hi!
If you made a backup, you can always go back to that map-file.
Or you can use the .bak file. (If you still have it, that is.): youmapname.bak
The .bak-file is a backup-file, created by the editor. Copy it (for safety resons) and rename the copy to: yourmapname.map, then open it in the editor.
