What does VIS mean?

I think I’d understand VIS better if I knew what the letters meant. I’m guessing the V means Visual??

Hmm so why is it written in capitals so often? (eg, http://w1.261.telia.com/~u26123488/vis/visfordummies.htm) I thought it was an abbreviation for something complicated.
